Just Sayins

Post by strawman » Sat Jan 24, 2015 9:19 pm

Farmer Brown stopped to lean on his pitchfork, mop the sweat from his brow, and gaze back on the day’s work.

Looking down at Felipe, the little Mexican field mouse who was his trusted crew foreman, he said, “Felipe, I don’t understand it. We plowed and planted that row of corn as straight as can be. But look at it now. All wavy and as crooked as a Chicago politician.”

Felipe shrugged resignedly, stroking his moustache and said, in a mysterious, ageless squeak,
“In my country, it is said, ‘The best laid plants of mice and men oft go astray.’”

Ah... Because The Bard Of Ayrshire is celebrating his birthday again, right?

But doesn't the original quote go something along the lines of, The best laid plans of mice and men gan oft agley?

You can't get a good haggis in south Georgia, even barbequed, although I'm working on a craft mead. based on an ancient Norse recipe. The haggis I had in Scotland was great as long as I could maintain the suspension of disbelief.
*Boy, they sure have a surplus of bagpipers there. They're all over the streets (having been kicked out of their homes, I suppose).*
And yes, gan oft agley. You see, that is a case of demonstrating by the language, by way of example, plants going astray. Just as plain English gan oft agley, and right there, you're in a foreign language.

Nonetheless I raised a glass yesterday and chased a skirt in his memory.

OMW I wrote a whole instructable out for you - now I see it's not in my sent items. Tsk. Should have saved it first. I'll compose it again and send later today If I can.
