The Magazine

He absentmindedly swept his hair from his face. Leaning on the other elbow at his desk Arnold was trying to read the faded print of the old magazine in the dim light emanating from the single bulb in the workshop.

With his hair-swiping hand he reached for the beer bottle and grabbed it by the top of the neck and took a swig from it, lips almost touching the fingers holding the glass; he turned his head as he gulped, tilting the bottle and finishing the beer without moving his elbow. Replacing the bottle, it slipped, spilling over the magazine article.

If he finished the beer, what was to spill? A replaced bottle? Inquiring minds want to know...

I liked the imagery of "taking a spill" as in "falling". It seemed better than the bottle "rolling" over the magazine. Perhaps I should rethink the "spill" lol

I'm still out there, Kate, scribbling away and working on longer fiction and various projects. I enjoy posting some of my more popular drabble "hits" here, to a new audience. Great to see you so active on the Drabblecast forums, sharing your writing!
