All the World

Post by eric_marsh » Wed Jun 03, 2015 4:04 am

According to physics the past, present and future all exist simultaneously. The flow of time is an illusion. The future is predestined.

Shakespeare said all the world is a stage. He wasn't wrong. What we call "now" is just the flickering of a projector.

In the future, physicists will devise technologies to see through the veil. We will know everything and be unable to change anything. Humanity will understand it's place in the universe.

Everybody wants to be a star. Most are destined to be supporting players.

We are an important part of the universe's story.

We're the red shirts.

A couple of nits with this one:

1. "According to physics..." ...Actually?
2. Theater flickering?
3. Since when did knowing everything ever produce humility?
4. Jehovah's Witnesses want to be stars. Most are destined to be dark matter.
5. This drabble is like the prologue to an ESPN fluff piece: "Tom Brady might be a Supernova, but where would he be without all those molecular bench-warmers?" or "It takes a lot of Nobodies to make a Somebody."

I've been reading and watching a lot of videos lately about the nature of timespace and things related. One theme that keeps coming up is that time may be an illusion. So I just played with that idea.

Let's say that all the future and all the past are invariable, all possibilities are locked like bugs in amber and that what we think we perceive as the flow of time is just an illusion. What are the implications of that? One metaphor (which I used) might be that of a movie.

It's just a 100 word story after all.

Shakespeare and Film cannot make a compound metaphor, since The Bard never flickered. Far be it from me to be critical of strange speculations. But time being an illusion doesn't adequately explain why I get so tired.

Maybe existence itself flickers.
Perhaps the reason we act strangely is that we are Charlie the Purple Giraffe.

Kinda like stop motion animation? A crew comes out, moves everything around and then the universe is turned on for a moment then back off again?

There's probably the potential for a story there.
