Sara

Post by FordBenjamin » Fri Mar 01, 2019 4:16 pm

My daughter held my hand as we walked Down Mitchell Avenue. Her tiny fingernails dug carelessly into my palm.

“Are you ok, darling?”

“Yes. I’m just thinking”

“About what?”

“I feel sorry for the people who have to walk on that side of the street.” She pointed to the east side of the Avenue.

“Why?”

“Because I don’t think they know they’re dead yet. They’re still doing the work they did in their waking lives. They don’t know.”

I smiled down at her, the simple innocence of youth. Maybe someday I’ll tell her that’s the living side of the street.
