Bsides 09 - In Search of the Mongolian Deathworm

Postby strawman » Mon Jan 04, 2010 4:55 pm

Bsides 09 - In Search of the Mongolian Deathworm: The Complete 5 Part Miniseries
by Norm Sherman

Assembled by Strawman
Artwork by Bo Kaier
Music by Dave Grisman, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Norm Sherman, and U2

"The Mongolian Deathworm...the deadliest worm in all of Mongolia...
Legends of this enormous subterranean creature have lingered in the Gobi desert longer than a poot trapped under the bedsheets...”

- - - - - - -

Some of the best stuff on Drabblecast doesn't get fully discussed because it's a story-length outro about memorized post-apocalyptic Drabblecasts becoming the scriptures of your mutated progeny's religion, or Connor Choadsworth's serialized Mongolian Death Worm Bonukka story, complete with blasphemously abused Christmas hymns, Mongolian angelic hosts and heavenly Worm Constellations in the West.

Norm's Stream of Consciousness is like a grown-up version of Disney's It's a Small World ride, but with no lines, at no cost (if you're okay with being THAT guy), and if Walt Disney were Dr. Demento.

I mean, how the hell else do you account for the sudden appearance of Dr. Suess? Or the Three Wise Men replaced by The Marx Brothers?

While I am a mere apprentice moderator, I think the MDW deserves it's own story thread. I enjoyed it as much as the Babylon Probe Episode, which also included a bbardle. And a thread is necessary to nominate it for the 2009 Chalice of Glory award.

I have converted the 4 episodes into an MP3 file. Tom, if you tell me how, I will send you the file so you can post it for download. Thanks. Happy New Year!

There were 5 segments to that wonderful cylindrical mockumentary weren't there?
I'd love to be able to get them all in one mp3 too.

Choadsworth's Mongolian masterpiece is like a Buffalo slain by Sioux Indians. Every part is used. From Nambarren's jabbery translations again coming into play as wordy "Angelic" old-speak to the brief but hilarious Lorax bit at the beginning of an early episode later popping up as a main chunk of concluding plot material. What we have in the end is a tidy and utterly ridiculous work of art. Fitting for the most ridiculous of all cryptozoological beasts.

I want to get a fake deathworm trampstamp tattoo now-- can we throw that into the ongoing pile of DC schwag ideas piling up on Norm's desk? What about a pastel spray painted license plate with a palm tree and the words "Bono & Heather 4 Ever" written in cheesy cursive?

I've been lobbying for the entire Choadsworth saga collected in a B-sides episode. T'would be nice to hear it as a continuous narrative. Also I want to draw an episode cover.

Hmmm perhaps if we start enough of a ruckus we can get Norm to alienate himself from his friends and family to bring us more of this. I Mean I'm all for having established authors providing most of the content on the DC, though I've been going though the first 50 or so episodes and well the stuff written by Luke, Kendall, and Norm is well worth the listen... Perhaps because of their lack of being a pro-author types, they are able to throw away normal constraints and write the wacked out stories we love..

Either way.... The Deathworm story was wonderful... With each new episode i would pray for Choadsworth's voice to perk up and tell me of any new developments... From bono to the dune references this was a favorite... even if it was an intro segment..

Don't get me wrong, I love the established authors and the great content, but Norm is rapidly nearing the point where he could write the whole show.

You should co-opt the b-sides feed and rename it "The Norm Sherman Show."

I have taken advantage of the fact that Norm has relinquished all rights to his work with his creative commons license, to wit I have created a 20 minute mp3 file with all the MDW segments. St. Tom is emailing me today instructions on teleportation of these 33.5 MB to him for mounting in his mp3 warehouse. Bo, go start the artwork.

Okay, I transfered the file to me.com. If you would let me know when you post your artwork. I'm doing a youtube upload and will use it for that too.

Actually that's all true, but they're better now, so I just posted the file.

Love that series. Always laugh when I hear "Ginormas Douche Baggar" in Norm's Choadsworthian speak. Downloaded! Much thanks tbaker2500.
The alien horde had finally halted. Our sonic weapons had worked. Their battle cry was no more. "Yep yep yep yep, uh huh!"

Oh, my bad for rushing to post before evaluating the possible inferences... No a-hole implications were intended. I just think the site is funny. Myke, dahling, I ask humbly for a most undeserved pardon.
