Bsides 19 – How The Moon Got Its Cousin

Feature: How the Moon Got Its Cousin by Lee Hallison

Sunday, December 30th, 2012
Once upon a time, O my Best Beloved, when the world was one world with one moon and the stars did scintillate and sparkle in the sky, astronomers discovered a Beast of a Meteor flying through the vast black toward the Sun.

The scientists of the world realized that the Beast, in a veraciously voracious manner, would devour the hot yellow sun, and they did talk and squawk and look through long telescopes to watchwhat that Beast was doing. They crunched their magic numbers and they scribbled their special notes, and they filled their study rooms with piles of scritch-scratch paper…

This has got to be inspired by Stephen Hawking's Universe. 10 mile long asteroid hits earth, penetrates crust, extinguishes life, creates another moon. In the relatively near term, too. Way before the sun going gas gianty. Still plenty of time to come up with an earthy epitaph and write it across moon number one in blinking neon.

Eh, it was okay. I like language for the sake of telling a story, but this one seemed too in love with making funny sounding sentences without doing much with them.

Or maybe we got up on the wrong side of the year.

Interesting you see Hawking instead of Kipling. "Best Beloved" in a robo-voice might have been too much. :D

Somewhat Frank Key-esque. I liked the language.
