Music for Episode 186 "Garkain"

Post by Yttermayn » Wed Sep 07, 2011 1:13 am

I have recently discovered the Drabblecast and have rapidly become an avid fan. One of the things that I really enjoy is the music used in the stories. I understand some of it is written and performed by Norm Sherman, and some is not. I'm guessing a lot of the creepy, didgeridoo/ambient music in 186 isn't Sherman's work. I would love to find out whose it is and where to find more. Is this information available?

Thank you.

Welcome to the forums, Yttermayn! Nice name.

Norm uses a lot of different sources for his music, including a lot of original.
Being a busy man, I'd expect him to see this question in a week or three. :-)

Thanks. It will be exciting to get a reply from the man himself. Unless, of course, you were being sarcastic. Then it will be pathetic.

Oh, he'll be around eventually. And no, I'm not kidding. This helps:

Norm! Question about music over here!

Yah, it's really hard to pin down which music you're talking about, because it's quite the hodgepodge in this episode. I did play a good bit of didgeridoo for this episode, but there are other artists and also general ambient music. Also, blending of the two.

So check out this stuff because it's your best chances of finding out what you liked:
Kaingany by Woomera
And Now for Something Different by Rishi and Harshil
Laughing Kookaburra and Into the Dreaming by Dreamtime

If you don't find what you're looking for PM me and we'll talk indigenous Aussie music, because I'm a total geek for that stuff.

I must admit I underestimated your musical range, I hadn't imagined you played the dij! I love indigenous music, chant, and other stuff. I'm not a geek about it- Geek being defined here as actually having more than a cursory knowledge of the subject. I'm about as far from a top 40 guy as there is. I often seek out 'primitive' musical forms, unorthidox, experimental, and avant gard forms of music. If you haven't already heard it yet, check out Gunpowder Chant by Diablo String Orchestra http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpDyEmaEDBY I totally dig this.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will try them post-haste.
