Unsung Stories: submissions, mushrooms, brain-chips et al

Postby TheBigBadG » Mon May 19, 2014 12:55 pm

So I'm going just get it right out there in the open. I am Bono, this is Bonokkah, bow befo- Wait. Wrong meeting...

So over here in the UK I'm in the process of launching a SFFH publisher called Unsung Stories. Now (aside from subtly dropping that in so you'll spend your pennies and make it a viable venture) the exciting bit I want to tell you lot is that we're open for submissions.

Long story short, we like The Drabblecast here. Like forcing people to listen to Babel Probe multiple times whilst contemplating the solipsistic nature of military cephalopods. In fact, one of our first books is by Aliya 'Jelly Park' Whiteley. So if you have a book which is awesome (a cryptozoology colouring book is a pertinent example) but just a little bit too mecha-space-squid then we might just be your publisher...

All the useful details are here - www.unsungstories.co.uk/submissions.

That's it, pitch over. Go about your business Earthlets.

Big Bad, this is AWESOME! Congrats on the startup, and I wish it much success. :-)

A couple questions: what are the word count lower/upper limits? Is it novels only? And is it currently a paying market? If you can have the team update those in the submissions guidelines, I'll ask the folks at the Submissions Grinder to make you a listing, which is a great way to get some free publicity and attention from authors.
Medical Microfiction: Stories about Science

Merits: Twabble Author (5), Drabble Author (4), DRIP Slave Volunteer (2), Whittling (1), Macaroni Crafts (2)

Thanks both, I'll put you down for 50 copies each of the new books, right?

Submissions Grindr is it though? That wouldn't hurt, I've already added it to Duotrope. As for the questions, the limits are very fluid. One of the first books is a novella for instance. I'm more interested in the awesome-per-word content than the overall mileage. We are paying royalties, this is a professional imprint, but you won't get any answer out of me re how much as that's a contracting matter. So nah. We are aiming at being a bit nicer than the rest though, I will say that. :D

Maybe I should rewrite and polish "Two."

I read your site. I suppose you've guessed I am also an Iain M. Banks fan.

Ye left us too soon, laddie.

...and I'm back in circulation. I will absolutely keep people in the loop. Just wrangling illustrators atm so once that's done... And ROU, yuppers to Mr Banks, awful loss. He wrote my favourite opening line to any book with, 'It was the day my grandmother exploded.'
