Like bunnies, the gerunds had been multiplying. But now fear shook the colony- had their return to power been just a trap?

After a life devoted to gerund cancer research, finally, remission. But then another appeared in a dangling modifier.

Note: PMS' modifier is not a dangler . But it sounds suspiciously like one.

All this irking gerunding
is really quite maddening.
'Tis English teacher's vanity
surely threatening to our sanity.

Well Christ, now I'm all self conscious xD
God watched Adam scratch his nuts and decided to try again. He made a mental note to remember to put the brain in this time.

The brain in the nuts?
Is this like "nuts" is "stun" backwards? (It would explain a lot.)

Unfortunately, I think most men already keep their brains there.

Man, it's hard to keep up in this thread.

I would never want to traumatize by recalling to our members the terrors of their high school English class. But I really do want to give practical suggestions that will help people write better. I learned, for example, that active verbs are stronger and more interesting than passive verbs. Gerunds really are hermaphrodite words, making hybrid noun/verbs. Generally, such blurring of distinctions tends to result in the same lack of force as verbal passivity.
The PMS Avenger wrote: An arrow through his lung, the dying Trojan pondered his mother and why the hell she said to not look a gift horse in the mouth.
In this case, PMS introduces her Twabble with a dependent clause. Consider how the effect is to emphasize in the reader's mind the primacy of the condition <arrow through lung>, which ranks it above the subject (Trojan), the fact of his dying, the memory of his mother's words, and the existence of a gift horse's mouth. You must consider the picture it presents, and then place all the other elements and their meaning into the context of that picture.

The really difficult puzzle of Twitfic, as with Haiku, is that these choices tend to be forced by character or syllable number considerations.

The difference between good poetry and doggerel is that the writer makes the reader not notice.

(I thought about starting that last sentence with IMO. But the development and use of Texting abbreviations is another writing issue. Without much thought, I chose to leave it out. Any thoughts on that?)

Now I can scratch my nuts.

A brain in the nuts is better than nuts in the brain. And scratching makes more sense than burying them for the winter.

The Mayans laughed at the silly guesses about Dec. 2012. They packed their bags for Zeta Retuli 5.

Almost time to go home.

You guys are posting so fast I've been force-previewed on this twice. Hopefully this time it goes through.

That was funny :D
And now we have brains AND get to scratch our nuts! The best of both worlds.

A sense of general content washed over the crowd. This was better.

No morning commute or bad relationships.

Mm, brains.

Thus saith the Lord: A wise man's heart inclines him toward the right, but a fool's heart toward the left. — Ecclesiastes

Not trying to pick a booger here... Merry Christmas, Josh.

But I think the real question is which way do his nuts/brain incline? Riddle me that, Batman.

That, my friend, is a matter mostly determined by habit, genes, and hormones. I don't know if it falls under the category of the courage to change or the serenity to accept. But there's no disputing that sooner or later, squirrels or not, both fruits and nuts go in the ground.

Lauren had expected that she would find Mr. Right. She did not, however, anticipate that his first name would be Always.

This is sexist and just plain wrong. I know this because I am always right. ;-)
