4 months and counting, and still no email confirmation. Not even a frakkin response to my problem form submittal. These people are a MESS.

Yes, I love the way the mark you as voted, even if you got no confirmation. I was able to get one through this month though, so I've done my part for the time being.

For those Linux command-line junkies out there you can use a combination of cat, tr and wc (but you already knew that, didn't you?):

cat your_twitflic_file|tr -d " "|wc -m

This domain is up for renewal. Anybody still using it?
(The logs show only a few-dozen hits, including robots, and some of the visitors are from *gasp*... Canada.)

So, thumbs-up, or don't bother?
I just did a quick scan and it seems like a lot of newbie's twabbles are the wrong length.

Also 22% of visitors are using Internet Exploder! I need to go take a rape shower now. :?

The reason for the traffic drop is the precipitous decline in twabble production. It was hot and heavy there for a while, but seems to have been overwhelmed by the recent tidal wave of drabbles. Nevertheless, it is a tool without which I fear the Twabble will die off. Is there a way to make a downloadable version?

And how about the drabbles? Is there a word count tool?

Well, if it's still used, I guess I'll go ahead and renew. I'm sure Norm won't mind if I deduct the cost from one of my alias' donations.

The tool is fully self-contained, which means you can "download" it. Merely save the webpage to your PC (for most browsers this captures all the files needed). Then you can click on your local copy of twabble_sizing_fun.htm to run it from your machine.

As for a drabble tool, I suppose I can gin one up, the next rainy day. Do you have a set of preferred word-count rules? (There's more than 1 way to count a word.)

My preferred rule is that hyphenated words count as one.

If I was making a program for wordcounts, the logic would look a bit like this:

Check for double and triple hyphens/equals/tildes, mdashes, double/triple periods, and ellipsis marks and replace them with a space.
Replace New Lines with spaces (ugh, *NIX vs. Windows problem).
Remove all superfluous spaces.
Do a Split on spaces and count the elements in the resulting array.

If I'm not forgetting anything, this would results in a wordcount that is more accurate than Write Or Die, Notepad++ and the Windows beta of Scrivener.

I'm probably forgetting a few rules. It's hard to hold all the various quibbles in one's head.

I'm not sure how feasible it is to do a real-time word count in Javascript. One as accurate (horribly inaccurate) as the one in Write Or Die is clearly feasible in real-time in Javascript, but a fancy one? We'll see.

If I was more motivated, I would have already made a Javascript word counter. I thought about making one for Android (native) both so I could have it and so I could get a few bucks.

Very cool. Thanks.
