There was a painter in Edwardian England, Louis Wain, who painted cats. He also had schizophrenia. As the schizophrenia progressed, his cats went from cute to bizarre geometric shapes not even resembling cats.
There's something here that links these two together. Some intangible thing about being unable to recognize a true sense of objects as discrete things, that seems to cause Deep Dream to almost behave as tho it has schizophrenia, something that just seems to call out from these images, something that just seems to tease the edge of recognition.
