Cool, they even celebrate Christmas 2500 metres underwater!

I find it rather ominous that the Squid Overmind is revealing its members so openly. The giant squid are fearsome, yes, but they're just brute strength. Magnapinna, on the other hand... We're getting near the inner circle with this.

They say the world will end in 2012. Pentagrams on Saturn, Obama in the white house, Canadian trolls invading innocent forums, and now Magnapinna revealing itself openly... Things don't look good for us.

Man, is that freakish. It looks like some movie prop, hard to believe it is real. I'm going to have nightmares with that bugger in them. Zoinks!

An impressive critter, to be sure, but again I don't quite get the OMG SQUID angle. A critter that sits stationary in the water column slowly undulating its fins, dragging its dangly arms on the seafloor to pick up whatever chances by doesn't strike me as first choice monster material.

I'm looking at the practical use of this Mr. Squid Overmind. Could these animals be trained to bend their legs at specific points, so that the legs could make some kind of ladder? Or better yet: make a tent! With a ladder! You'd have a wonderful underwater tent with a ladder and a great satellite dish on top to watch some cool Jacques Cousteau episodes while lazily drifting down some ocean.

I agree with bolddeceiver, these are not very creepy animals. They have great commercial potential though! Let's make some money over there.

On the other hand... where is Mr. Overmind's beak? Is it possible to have you're head removed by the tent's ceiling while lazily drifting down the ocean?
I'll be there in 5 minutes. If not, read this again.

I think what's so shocking about those photos is that the squid is NAKED. It clearly was wearing a dress over those looong legs. Yes baby, those legs do go all the way up!

zZzacha,
Perhaps it would help to think of them as marine spiders...
Canadian marine spiders.

Not creepy? Can you imagine going for a dip in your favorite lake and while underwater opening your eyes and seeing that beastie hovering in front of you? I think the water around me would get warm real fast.

O-M-G. Marine spiders! You are right, these squids are the most creepy animals I have ever seen! And look at those legs! I will never swim in that ocean again, I'm cancelling my vacation and we need to bring NCIS to get that marine monster.
Pf, how dare he. Pretending to be a tent, luring in innocent *cough* chicks.

Tweedy,
Cute, but he isn't coughing. You need to photoshop a little proctologist in there.

Any relation? Oh, hang on, Tweedy, not Tweety.

Actually, this worries me. I remember what Mr and Mrs Tweedy were famous for. Pie, anyone?

Awesome! It's a bureaucracy..."an eerily fantastic creature that appears to be a single, large organism, but which is actually a colony of numerous individual jellyfish-like animals that behave and function together as a single entity. The individual units, called zooids, all share the same genetic material and each perform a specialized role within the colony."
Resistence is futile.
You will be assimilated.

Oh yeah! That would be a awesome SADM competitor. It could disassemble into its 999 constituent critters to avoid attack or break off pieces to use as decoys. All 999 must be killed for it to be defeated. Word.

That thing's actually... Kind of cute. I don't get the sinister "I will take your soul back to hell with me" vibe I got from magnapena. Maybe because it doesn't have any eyes.

Do you ever wonder how many of these "creatures" are actually just lotsa smaller animals posing for the camera?

"Hey guys, let's make a giant five-tentacled thing this time."
"Frank, why is it always with the tentacles? Let's make some long floating legs this time,"

Wow, great animal! Or animals? It's very hard to count beasts in that heap.

I do love the X-mas tree effect of it!
