Alligators learn to use tools, fish for prey

Postby Algernon Sydney is Dead » Thu Dec 05, 2013 10:41 pm

Studies show that "crocodiles are even sneakier than had been previously believed". They use sticks to lure in birds and use "highly coordinated group hunting tactics".

I could swear that the alligators of my youth were not this smart. If these new studies are correct, the only explanation is that a sinister alien intelligence is directing their evolution. :)

No word on how close the alligators are to using beer cans for bait. I suspect there are no living witnesses to this tactic.

Crocs and Gators are not apples and oranges, ASID.
Gators have rounded snouts.
Crocs have pointed snouts.
Gators are purses.
Crocs are shoes.
Crocs are smart enough to use beer for bait.
Gators are morons.

Nope. The article clearly mentioned both crocs and gators. They're both getting smarter.

Besides, they both belong to the family Crocodylia, so they're practically the same thing!

Next you'll have some foolishness about how there's a qualitative difference between us and Cro-Magnon man.

Pity, I like the angle of alligators trying to differentiate themselves via tool usage.
