Ode to Pods

Post by ROU Killing Time » Wed Sep 09, 2009 10:32 pm

"Oh Great and Nobel Pod, We Abase Ourselves Before Thee..."

Science fiction would not, nay can not exist without the venerable pod.

Think of all the occurrence of "Pods" in various movies that would vanish in a splat of furry schrodinger fur if one were to travel back in time and erase the word "Pod" from the english language.

I'll start.

"Open the pod bay doors, Hal."

ZOMG, 2001, a classic SF extravaganza lost forever. What a tragedy.

Ok, I wouldn't mourn the loss of the 30 minute acid trip sequence at the end but the rest of the movie is a classic treasure of the genre...)

So, what else would we lose without the grand and mighty Pod, resting safely in the dictionary?

What would Biology be if you couldn't have a head-foot, an arm-foot, or an oar-foot?
Empty and vacuous of course.
And now we can hold our heads high and loudly proclaim that We Are Podophiles!
