New contest ideas?

Post by Philippa » Tue Feb 12, 2008 11:10 am

" In the 1920s, Ernest Hemingway bet ten dollars that he could write a complete story in just six words. He wrote: "For Sale: baby shoes, never worn." "

I've been hearing a lot lately about Smith magazines six word memoir idea and subsequent book Not Quite What I Was Planning. The entries are described variously as bittersweet, poignant, moving, inspirational and hilarious, but perhaps Drabblecast listeners and contributors could add some much darker and scarier adjectives to that list... Maybe a six word memoir of a character from a past story? A famous/infamous historical, criminal or literary figure? Or just something spawned in depths of your own brain.

Any other ideas to inspire some strange and/or disturbing reader submissions?

As much as I love Hemingway, that one's always struck me as deficient... is that really necessarily so dramatic and sad as he implies? Or could someone have just ignored the gift register for the shower?

;)

TV Infomercials

Post by Goldenrat » Fri Mar 21, 2008 1:47 am

How about coming up with a script for a lame TV infomercial? Geez, I see these things all the time and they are so full of crap I get drawn in and can't stop watching. I love the ones now where they set up this fake news show where they "interview" some clown trying to sell a lame book, exercise machine, or pill. That loser Kevin Trudeau is always selling some book with "secret" information in it. One of the worst of the recent batch was the show about the Japanese foot tampons that glue to your feet. You wear them while you sleep and they suck all the unhealthy substances from your body. There is a sucker born every minute.

How about a drabble competition? Mail in your drabbles, everyone! Then maybe we'd get to hear a few more of them. I'd love to hear the drabble this group would write.

That does seem like a good idea. It could be like the Scam Spam contest: Less than 300 words to write the most insane/funny/grotesque infomercial ever, with Norm performing the winner.
