I agree with Beth. Sing really did create a world. "I've tried parsnips once or twice, and the high they give is pretty powerful if you're not careful, and everybody knew Mag Tanner weren't careful..." a great story and a great premise...I've always liked to think that everyone is born with a unique song, and the way the songs are perceived and related was just very well communicated with great pacing and economy. Well written and well told, (in a kind of Wiggin's General Store mode).
That left, for me, a better taste than Floating Over Time which, though well done and a good story, was still, bottom line, about an ambivalent suicide.
