192 Rangifer Volans
The idea of Christmas Carols in minor keys with Drabblecast slant was like an alien invasion from outer space. "It's seasonal!" All the elements stood on their own but were perfect together. A tour de force.
148 Last Great Clown Hunt
Maybe the ultimate evidence of 'strange stories for strange listeners'. This is actually a better and more accurate version of Little Big Man, (1970 Hoffman, Dunaway)
155 Second Conquest of Earth
The fast thinking insight into the line between deductive reasoning and intuition, when not only your life but the future of human civilization is at stake is incredible. Also, best Non-Norm narration of the year.
170/171 Mongoose
Ready for the SiFi Channel
174 Fantasy Jumper
lesbian horrotica is not immune to drabblecastigation: "You don't love me? You bitch! Watch me die!"

Speak for yourself. For a "Notorious Forum Hog", you're pretty shy of votes in this category, bucko!ROU Killing Time wrote:Vote early, Vote often!

But I can sympathize. When I listen, I'm usually an hour or three from the 'puter, so it's hard to jot down notes and I listen to and/or read a lot of stories.
It would be sweet if Drabblecast could post the text of the stories, to jog our memories, but that probably costs extra?
Anywho, my nominations:
192 Rangifer Volans
Bsides 12 Social Parasite
148 The Last Great Clown Hunt
191 Primary Pollinator
180 Something Borrowed, Something Doomed

Re: Feature Story Nominations
Discussion is fun, and it's more interesting to read threads where people talk about why they voted the way they did than to just read lists of titles.
Besides, a really well-written vote post might well sway others to think as you think lest they be abominably wicked.

Good point. So here's mine again (from the first page) with reasons why:Scattercat wrote:Discussion is fun, and it's more interesting to read threads where people talk about why they voted the way they did than to just read lists of titles.
Besides, a really well-written vote post might well sway others to think as you think lest they be abominably wicked.
1 - EP 170/171- Mongoose by Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear
I don't think people need ot be convinced to vote for this masterpiece judging by the numbers already putting it up there, but still... this story sent literal shivered down my arms. The setting, pulling elements from Lovecraft, Lewis Caroll and A A Milne was inspired, and the writing really pulled the knots that make fear in a story seem real. If I heard this piece was being made into a film I would probably cream myself.
2 - EP 166- Jubilee by Tim Pratt
In Jubilee I was hit by the two contrasting stories; the internal turmoil of the narrator and the jubilee it's strange discovery at the end. What struck me was the off handed way the locals dealt with the unexplained body. Local, hidden weirdness always strikes a chord with me, and with well written story is a fine example of it done right.
3 - EP 158- Dr. Diablo Goes Through the Motions by Saladin Ahmed
I don't like superheroes. Well, I like batman, but he's not super, just a man. And this dislike means I tend to move towards the skewiff takes on the genre. Ahmed's story of the super villain who's realising he's probably wasting his life and could actually make a difference with his skills made me smile and then root for him when the tables suddenly turned.
4 - EP 148- The Last Great Clown Hunt by Chris Furst
It's a clown western. 'Nuff said.
5 - EP 186- Garkain by Samantha Henderson
I said in the thread for this ep, as a foreigner living in Australia, I've taken to local folklore as only an outisder can, and Henderson's story of local legend told through the ages of Australia's colonisation is written in such a grounded fashion I could feel as if I were there.
Let me through, I'm a colour therapist!

I'm happy though, the one vote I was sure of for Morris and the Machine wasn't a green-party throwaway vote.
