The forum time is screwy

Postby gunsofchekhovia » Sun Dec 01, 2013 5:15 pm

Also, is the time wonky for anyone else? I'm logged in right now, and it's 6:14 PM where I am, but the forums are telling me it's 11:something AM.

Seconded - I'm having this problem too. I set my time to Central Africa time today to make it show up correctly.

This is a separate problem. Please start a new thread for new problems, don't tack them on to unrelated threads. This helps in tracking and fixing issues.

Anyway,
  1. You probably still have DST set to on.
    A) Go to your control panel.
    B) Select Board preferences -> Edit global settings.
    C) Make sure your timezone is correct.
    D) Switch DST off (or whatever it should be for whenever/wherever you are reading this).
    E) Storm your elected "representatives" offices and demand that they get rid of this outdated and tyrannical throwback of a law.
  2. The forum time is still wrong.

As I read your first post, the forum reports that your post was made "Sun Dec 01, 2013 8:15 am". This is incorrect.

Your post was made Dec 2, 00:15 UTC, which should be shown to me as "Sun Dec 01, 2013 4:15 pm" -- based on my forum timezone settings (UTC-8).

The forum is 8 hours too slow. Since the forum servers are based in California, this suggests that the forum and/or server are set to run on California time (God help us all), NOT UTC, like the forum software expects.

So, it seems the DC server times are set wrong. (or the phpBB software has been hacked)

Yous guys are funny!
K, I've verified the server is off 4 hours. I've send in a support ticket. Thanks for the heads up!

Just now was:
Mon, 02 Dec 2013 02:46:23 GMT

The DC server reports (via this page's response headers):
Sun, 01 Dec 2013 18:46:23 GMT

That's a difference of 8 hours.
( 18 + 8 = 26 = 2 AM, the next day)

So... what you're saying is that the forum has found a way to time travel.

Are we sure we want to be fixing this? :)

Looks like the time is displaying correctly, now.

The support guy got to it too late, it was already fixed. Must've been doing an upgrade, since they broke a Rails installation for another site of mine. :-(

Uptime for the server is only 16 hours. So, they rebooted recently. The forums seems snappier again, too.
