If the flood of newcomers keeps up (hearty welcome, y'all!), I'll soon be able to count myself a forum eldergod.

With that in mind, my personal (and surely not countable) vote is that the occasional bending of the punctuation rule is acceptable. So long as it's kept occasional and doesn't feel cheap.

While I hew close to the rules here, when I go to post my twabbles on my blog, I edit them so that they are more artistically sound (and I don't call them twabbles). I'm more interested in the story being true to itself. The challenge of fitting that story into 100 characters is valid, but sometimes a little leeway is a good thing.

Nope. If it's typical, then any competent tech -- with a soldering iron -- can extract the data. We can even extract partial data from a cracked chip (the chip is never cracked in civilian cases), if we think it's worth the expense.

Your data is safe after you've completely slagged the device with an oxy/acetylene torch. But, I would not be stunned if some crazy agency had a laser gadget that could decode the smoke patterns.

Well, it's why I put 'safe' in quotes. It's a lot harder to get to if its damaged then let's say if someone leaves it intact sitting in a computer lab. Most people won't go to the effort or know how, when anyone can pop in and read a lost one in a second. (Really PGP is the way to go.)

The best way to get rid of a device is to use DBAN or something to securely format it. Then use a Blendtec for fun.

I think Wonko was aiming for a sense of 'murder/suicide threat' in 'take them all with him when he went' . But Morg points out the problem. You can't really say "take them out", which might be clearer, since you don't 'take people out' to Disneyworld..

On a technical/nit-picky note: That was not a twabble per the rules that The Drabblecast uses.

Our twabbles are exactly 100 characters long, not counting spaces. That twabble was 100 characters long, counting spaces, but only 81 characters long by the rules.
