With that in mind, my personal (and surely not countable) vote is that the occasional bending of the punctuation rule is acceptable. So long as it's kept occasional and doesn't feel cheap.
While I hew close to the rules here, when I go to post my twabbles on my blog, I edit them so that they are more artistically sound (and I don't call them twabbles). I'm more interested in the story being true to itself. The challenge of fitting that story into 100 characters is valid, but sometimes a little leeway is a good thing.
