Roughcut Preview

Still needs intro's (so wait through the pauses) and I haven't soundtracked the 3rd drabble yet, but I thought it might be of interest to some to catch a sneak-peak and useful to me to get some feedback.
Feeling good about making April 1st for the real-deal premiere.
Lemme know what ya think.

Re: Got a voice you want to cast?
Nice!!! I'm very impressed. The scoring on Lapidaries was perfect.
Two things that I thought needed tweaking:
The very end of Toshie's War got too soft, it gets lost in the music. I'd bring Liz's voice up rather than the music down.
Second, your CC end bit is too quiet.
Kicking ass, bud!

Nice work, man.
I second Tom's remark on the CC part, but it sounds kickass overall.

Re: Got a voice you want to cast?
sweet, thx guys. Ya I was thinking that about the last piece of Toshie too. Thx for the advice on how to handle that.
I just tossed the CC on the end because I was putting it up and figured it was a good idea. I'll probably end up re-doing it on the full outro anyway, so for the purposes of the rough-cut it should suffice.
The opener is my daughter, Allison, of course. my lil cutie pie.

Re: Got a voice you want to cast?
Ya man, sounds great!
Lil heavy on the dead air IMO. I'd come up with a lil stinger sound effect or musical nugget to bridge and blend segments and cleanse the mind's palette, rather than just blank space. Will keep the flow and continuity going a little better. The crazy big top music you use as theme music would be a great transitional device, maybe try fade in/out with that?

Re: Got a voice you want to cast?
Thanks Norm. Agree completely on dead air space. that's just a place holder til I figured out something. Using the circus music is a great suggestion. I'm still envious of that dang high-falutin musickle trainin you got under yer belt. You bein all edumacated in that must come in real handy...
Funny thing about the circus music. It's "Enter the Gladiators" and my high school was the Gladstone Gladiators. I've played the middle stanza of that in pep band, oh about a bazillion times.
It was our school's fight song.
Times like this I wish I'd kept my chops.
Soundtracking your bit is gonna be the most work, but the most fun I think. Shouldn't be too hard to handle with what I've learned doing the first two.

Congratulations, ROU. Balloons and cigars all around.
I'm so proud that our DC baby is ... metastasizing. It seems like only yesterday we walked in on him playing with his tentacles, and had to call the pediatrician to find out if that was normal. You cannot imagine our concern until the doctor assured us that it wasn't.
ASID recently twatted his "You. Complete. Me."
This might be the most accurate description yet of what is happening to the Drabblecast, as we all play in Norm's sandbox and literally transform into the actual Cult of the Cephalopod.
Spread your wings and fly, little squidspawn.

Re: Clowns & Bunnies: Got a voice you want to cast?
Congrats buddy! Looking forward to giving it a listen.
Six pages of comments ago, you pushed an idea- have regular people do voice acting, to start pushing more stories to more people in the audio format. After all, the Drabblecast was only once a week.
Since then the community has been so enamored with the idea, that a single podcast, C&B, wasn't enough. Raw desire to be admired has driven the creation of a second podcast to handle all the stories that wouldn't fit in C&B.
Good job!

Re: Clowns & Bunnies: Got a voice you want to cast?
Thanks Tom, and big grats go out to dreamrock too, as well as a new level of understanding and admiration for how hard Norm works on the real deal every week. Birthing my little 5 minute microcast felt like a very extended labor indeed.
I think Dreamrocks idea was a brilliant way to open the flood-gates for the hungry masses that really just can't get enough drabbles.
Clowns and Bunnies is the cheap Walmart knock-off of drabblecast, and Dribblecast is the Overstock.com of the drabble world now.
I suppose tossing a prop Mr.Eley's way for inspiring Norm to get into the business in the first place is also in order.

Re: Clowns & Bunnies: Got a voice you want to cast?
Maybe Norm could address some of the secret sauce ingredients for the benefit of those who are interested in dribblecast production. I was wondering where he found "catsplat", and "Kus' lipsmacking" and if there's a simple way to add FX and music.

Re: Clowns & Bunnies: Got a voice you want to cast?
SFX--Freesound.org is pretty good, sounddogs, also lots of better sites for foley and effects that cost a little $-- audiosparx.com my favorite so far.
Kus voice was just me clucking and me doing my SlingBlade impression, then transposed down about a fifth. Audacity is a decent little place to start if you want a free editing program.

Re: Clowns & Bunnies: Got a voice you want to cast?
There's also a free web-based multitrack editor a friend keeps begging me to try out. If it works as advertised, I'll probably link it in the Dribblecast thread for people who don't like installing things. Not that Dribblecast needs multitrack. :XD But a good web-based editor could be handy for people who don't like installing things (or can't for whatever reason), or if it turns out to be easier than Audacity et al. then that would be a good thing too.

Re: Clowns & Bunnies: Got a voice you want to cast?
Thanks for the tip, Norm. Finding more free sources for sound FX will really be helpful until I become a podcast billionaire, such as yourself.

Cardinal rule though: Only buy a sound effect if you can not possibly make it yourself. Trust me, it's way more fun that way.

Hmm, i need to check on that. Podbean has a "publish to iTunes" button gizmo, maybe I just need to go press it again.normsherman wrote:Hey, any way you can get this puppy on itunes? Feedburner?

Aha, the iTunes settings just sets things to be ready for iTunes. I had to go submit it. It should be there in however long it takes for iTunes to process such things.ROU Killing Time wrote:Hmm, i need to check on that. I'm guessing it's similar for Feedburner, which I'll do next.
