Norm, you are the lovechild of Mel Brooks and Isaac Azimov.
This story is truly e-theater genius. I especially enjoyed the end swell, which would have been such an appropraite background to credits rolling. In fact, if you added animation to this piece, you could submit it for an animated shorts oscar and, I think, have a good shot at winning. It's that good.

How about giving us bloggers the lyrics to the jelly song?

Norm, you really outdid yourself on the voices this week. Awesome job.

This story is what drabblecast is all about. Weird, and unpredictable simply because, who else would have ever thought of this?

Hee hee, I love it - I catch the number 67 bus every now and then, maybe I'll fall asleep on it one day. I always suspected bus drivers led a secret life of jolliness, the promise of jelly cubes explains their steadfast patience in the face of fare-dodging London yobbos... I'd love to know the inspiration for this peculiar little story.

Have you ever wondered why a tune sticks in your mind?
Has it struck you as odd that you can walk into an elevator, or just happen to walk by someone whistling in the park, and end up infected with some tune that squats in your consciousness like a sonic leech.

Wouldn’t that be an awesome power, to cause it in people at will?

It’s a simple matter of reverse engineering, scanning the brain, mapping electrical activity. Followed by input sampling and response data evaluation.

Now that this power is mine, how shall I use it?

I know this is like the third time I've said this, but that might have been the best Drabblecast ever.

Production is always good, but

I mean

. Guest voices and an original song on top of the usual great voice-work? Bravo!

And I loved the story itself. It gave me that fuzzy feeling I get from Hayao Miyazaki movies. It's so unselfconsciously innocent that it makes you forget you're a grizzled old 24 year old working at a job you hate that barely pays the rent. It's silly nonsense, but it's silly like my 2-year old dancing in circles and shouting "cuckoo money!" with sincere passion. It makes me want a piece of that cuckoo money action.

Great moral too! When it comes down to it, happiness is a choice. You don't need fame and riches. If you're got the right spirit, a box of jelly cubes can be something worth looking forward to. Whatever you've got, love it with ardor. You can "have it all" and be a lonely, miserable mess. But even if you've got nothing, you can still sing the Jelly Song!

Thanks Aliya Whiteley for a great story! I want more.

I've just heard it (listening in just before popping out to the pub for xmas eve), and I've suddenly noticed that I voiced the monobrow man as the driver towards the end of the story! Love the jelly song though.

I noticed that too! But not after narrating and listening several times...at that point I figured it couldn't be a big deal if I hadn't caught it by then.

The song at the end reminded me of the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 where there are hundreds of Jacks on the boat. But it was hundred of Norms singing the Jelly song. It was a truly scary thought.

This was the best podcast I ever heard. Great original music, lyrics, story, and voice work. If there was an award for best episode in podcasting, this would have to win.

You should make this into a faux children's book with lots of illustrations (similar in style to The Little Prince: looks like it's for kids but really isn't). It would rock. I'd buy a copy.

Also, try Googling Jelly Park. www.jellypark.co.uk/ takes you to an interesting site from Essex, which promises 'funky art for the little people in your life', which profits Little Havens childrens' hospice.

Might be a serendipitous coincidence, (not unlike waking up on the bus).
