Eeeek! We used to get a version of those nasties in our swimming pools in South Africa, they made us leap out in terror and the sight of them still gives me the shivers - probably would have scarred me for life if I'd known they were after my juices! Although I don't remember anyone actually being bitten by one, there was a general consensus amongst us children it would be horrifically painful and rapidly lethal.
Ours had long whip-like tails that we assumed were the business death-dealing ends, but apparently those are just breathing tubes. Ugh. Bleugh. Shudder.

These hostile critters are called Toe Biters. First time I saw one, it was swimming after me. I could tell he was after my juices. You could tell from the attitude. It was either that, or rape. Let's just say if cockroaches were like this, we would have colonized Mars decades ago.

Giant Water Bugs is a pretty good name for an album too...

Cool. We see those big daddies flying around lights late in the summer. They are clumsey fliers so you don't want to get in their way. Two other cool bugs are cicadas and hummingbird moths. Cicadas make that cool loud buzzing sound in the summer. Creepy looking beasts, too.

Think about: if we start eating these freak'n critters, then they will start becoming scared of us instead. So, who wants to eat one first?

I think someone from Oklahoma, where they catch catfish by sticking their fists down the critters' throats and pulling them out by the tonsils, is the fearless sort I'd be happy to follow.

I KNOW! That is freak'n crazy! I think it all started with someone who just hated catfish and would go around punching them in the face, only to have one of them open it's mouth and bite his fist
