And If You Gaze Into the Abyss (Wayfarer theme)
I started in the Mississippi Delta, which is not actually a delta but an alluvial plain. From where I was in Yazoo County, I had to go somewhere else.
Unlike Lasalle, I was neither a famous explorer nor French. I was just a guy who collected Jack Chick comics and lay awake at night thinking about the Munchhausen trilemma. I was ill-equipped to hunt snarks or battle a Jabberwock. When I reached the climax of the story, I hardly even knew how I had gotten there.
I didn't have a near-death experience. I just lost an entire day on Wikipedia.

I sometimes regret not having a photographic memory.
But I console myself with the thought that when they decide to do the massive federally funded brain map, and take samples from frozen cross-sectional shavings, they will probably be less interested in my average brain that in the ones with extraordinary features, like photographic memory.
I love Wikipedia, but I am frustrated that I cannot retain what I have learned there.
Then I realize that they will probably use Wikipedia for the test to see whose brains are photographic.
My frustration will turn to gratitude.
So much in life is like this.

Re: And If You Gaze Into the Abyss (Wayfarer theme)
At first I wondered whether slicing up frozen brains would be necessary in this age of functional MRI, etc. But then I realized that, if I were a mad government scientist and had the opportunity to slice up frozen brains, it might conveniently take me a while to discover that the most fun method of studying brains might not be strictly necessary or even the best method available.
With regard to Wikipedia, all I ever seem to remember is the phrase "citation needed," repeated over and over. I think this, too, may be for the best.

I much prefer Norm's "and that's a statement, not a fact".gunsofchekhovia wrote: With regard to Wikipedia, all I ever seem to remember is the phrase "citation needed," repeated over and over. I think this, too, may be for the best.
