Story-feedback forum, improve post order
How difficult would it be to modify the story feedback forums to something similar to EA? It'd be nice to have all the most recent podcasts up top and clearly visible.
Replies to older posts would still be bumped, but should be below the most current threads. Just a thought.

Re: Forum suggestion
By EA you don't mean the video game company but the podcast company? I'll look at it.

Re: Forum suggestion
Don't we already control that option? (Look under the posts, and change from ascending to descending order.)

Re: Forum suggestion
The most current threads are up top (Changing the sort order would reverse that).
You want to lock the posts in episode order? I'm against that. If not that, what?
~~~
Proposal 1: Just pin a topic to the top called "Episode List" that has nothing but links, in top-down order, to the episode threads. (Easy but requires weekly update)
Proposal 2: Bo or Tom (or Tom could give the moderators topic-pinning powers and I'd do it) just pin, say, the last three episodes up top. Recommend that only 3 episodes be pinned at a time. (Easy but requires weekly update)
Proposal 3: It should be possible to write a module that adds "quick links", to the episodes, to just this subforum/thread. If I write it (no promises) I promise not to put in too many back-doors.
(Hard, but automatic once installed, no further action needed)
Proposal 4: I could write a userscript, for people's browsers that does the same as proposal 3 (minus backdoors), but people would have to install it to see the feature. (Not too hard to make the script, but it would only work on browsers where a user chose to install it.)
Due diligence: Pin a poll up top with these suggestions, plus any that users suggest. See if there is a big demand for this.
Re: Forum suggestion
It's not a bad idea to make the newest ones sticky. I'm not sure it's worth the effort, since it's rare to have tons of back catalogue posting, but I see the value.
ASID, I took a look at your permissions, and I believe you were not fully assigned as a Global Moderator. Try it out now and see if you can make sticky. (Dirty minds!)
I see I now appear in the Global moderators list (Bwahahahahaa), but I still can't gum up the works.
Yea, that didn't work right. The permission system is obtuse and buggy. Global Moderators- ASID, Strawman, you now have permissions to let you make topics sticky, as well as a few other things, in relevant forums.
Re: Story-feedback forum, improve post order
Thanks. Does that mean you want me to make the last 3 2 episodes sticky?
Another user (sandrilde) apparently also thinks this is a problem because (s)he has been bumping threads.
Update: Just made the last 3 2 episode threads sticky (since it's super-simple to reverse). It's not quite what I'd hoped as the sticky threads are sub-sorted by activity date -- which means the episodes are still not always in order. Still, they're all up top now.
Very nice ASID. Remind me not to change the permalink structure.
Re: EPISODE LIST -- thread links, in order
Thanks all. Reminder to mods, this list needs manual updating with each new episode. I'll do it (until I forget, drop dead, or leave in a hissy fit).
Also, I think only the most recent 3 episodes should be pinned (it's just a coincidence that I'm normally 2 episodes behind).
Update: With the introduction of Drabbleclassics, changed this to pinning last 2 episodes of main and last 2 of Classics. Otherwise, everything above the fold was pinned episodes and not the most recently updated threads.
Or at least give me a heads up. But, one should never change permalink structures (or most links) anyway without at least providing 301 redirects on the old links and/or structures.tbaker2500 wrote:Very nice ASID. Remind me not to change the permalink structure.
You're Welcome. I also moved your post to make navigating that URL list a little easier for the next guy.TheBigBadG wrote:Absolutely magic - your titanic bout of [ url]-ing makes the life of this large terrible character much easier. Thank you!
