Citrine

Post by unseentangerine » Sun Nov 30, 2014 12:55 am

Citrine chatted among event-goers with cool, calculated precision. No one saw the conspicuous lump near the inseam of her left thigh wriggle its way down her pant leg and poke out a curious, furry nose. The agent of clandestine acts, well trained by harsh and intense means, bounded away in the playful hops only ferrets can. Citrine's face gave no suggestion that the culmination of her passionate work was unfolding. Her expression was warm, relaxed, pleasant. After a moment the ferret slank back, returning to its warm place via the same route. The Annual Potato Show was never the same.

This one has me puzzled (not an uncommon event).

First, there's the name "Citrine". Before reading the Drabble I looked it up. Apparently, "The gemstone Citrine is the official birthstone for the month of November as adopted by the American National Association of Jewelers in 1912. It is also the Planetary stone for the Sun Sign of Virgo and the accepted gem for the 13th and 17th wedding anniversary."

Having read the Drabble, I guess none of that has any significance ;)

Ferrets and potatoes? Is there a connection?
Did the ferret sabotage Citrine's competitors' entries?
Why did it slink back rather than playfully hop?
Will we ever learn the awful truth?

the character is named Citrine only because I liked the sound of the word for a name
if you guessed ferrets and potatoes have no connection, you are correct
I chose slank as a stealthier synonym for bound
the truth is pretty awful
