Re: Drabblecast 173- Go Beep by Aliya Whiteley
IMO it all comes down to marketing to teenagers. Once they stop being children but before becoming adults, most kids are searching for who they are, and there is a whole industry out there who's sole purpose is to take advantage of that, and you can see it in nearly every aspect of life which touch...

Nicely done. I actually didn't get past the first minute when Podcastle ran it, so kudos on the production. Fun stuff.

Re: Drabblecast 157- Brief Candle by Ruthanna Emrys
The penalty for not breeding has plummeted. Coincidence? Good point. I've wondered the same thing myself, at least the homosexual population, though it honestly never occurred to me that the same thing might be happening to women. I'd be hard pressed to find references at this point, but I remember...

Re: Drabblecast 157- Brief Candle by Ruthanna Emrys
Outstanding story, and very though provoking. It's tempting to me to start engineering a solution to their problem, but I also think the main thrust of the story was to get the reader thinking about the idea of older generations making way for the new. I didn't see any advocacy for eugenics, though ...

Great story. Nice work with the music, too. I likes the way this story hinted at a larger universe behind the scenes without infodumping or leaving me confused. This was also a rare story in that I wasn't a step ahead of the protagonist.
The closing scene was especially touching.

Re: Podcasts I like or don't like
Not to dogpile, but Podcastle has been dreadfully uneven. Dave does a great job, but they just run a lot of bad stories. The most recent, "Exit Sign," is just plain bad. I like Rachel Swirsky's writing, but I have to question the decision making in purchasing stories. I actually dropped them for a f...

Re: Drabblecast 132- Doubleheader IV: from Bruce Holland Rogers
It is just a shame that there is not a Mongolian Death worm competing in MBDM III. I think it's a shame there isn't an actual Mongolian Death Worm with a belly full of Bono. I'm looking forward to hearing about more of Connor's adventures in the Gobi. Great stories, both. I could actually see the g...

Re: Drabblecast 129- Annabelle's Alphabet by Tim Pratt
That was one of my favorite Drabblecasts ever. It might have to replace The Worm Within. OK, Tim Pratt is pretty damn awsome, but that might be going a touch far. I'm pretty much with Mr. Tweedy here, except that I think that the quality of the writing more than makes up for the linearity. I guess ...

Excellent story. Nice use of first person perspective, and under novel circustances. Zombies (and I use the term loosley) keep coming up because they are a great metaphor. The zombie is the essential Id, observing no taboos, and seeking nothing but the fulfillment of it's sole desire: to eat people....

Nirvana? What? Rather than thinking of Spinal Tap I kept thinking of a sci-fi/fantasy version of Nirvana. I mean, Gifting Bliss... Bliss is Nirvana... An angst filled early 90's guitar playing musician in a 3 man band creating a cult-like following. People treating the guy like he's a messiah and c...

I have a lot of sympathy for Mr. Tweedy's position. I've listened to a few episodes of Hooting Yard. I realy enjoy it, but I'm simply not up to it most of the time, mentally. I've actually found that Mr. Keys work is much better read than heard. It's been a while since I visited his site, but I beli...

The Dunesteef Audio Fiction Magazine is not yet a year old, but I've enjoyed most of their stuff. I just listened to this one this morning, and it is very well written, and has a nice level of creepiness required for this time of year. http://dunesteef.com/2008/10/15/page-4-crashing-stolen-cars-by-...

Tongue Biter: Blick. Disgusting, yet fascinating. Drabble: Funny. Story: Very cool. Very atmospheric, great use of first person narration, perfect for this kind of story. Harvey Keitel could play the narrator in the short film version, with Steve Buschemi playing Half-Sneeze Johnny. The reading/acti...
