Re: Drabblecast 202 / 203 - Boojum
I'm loving it. What I really dig is the subtle way a lot of the Mythos stuff fits in to the cross-genre setting; for instance, "vaguely-aquatic-adapted-spacers" thing is just common enough a trope in SF that it took me a few minutes to go "aha!" and notice the Innsmouth look in the gillies. Can't wa...

MP3 feed issue
Any reason why the last two episodes on the mp3 feed have been .mov rather than .mp3 files? I switched to the straight-mp3 feed because my media player doesn't care for the flavor of the AAC files on the main feed, but it likes these no better

Re: Drabblecast 194 - A Distant Sound of Hammers
I did like it, but I'll admit that the best of this story was the first half -- the gut-turning discovery as the premise and background of this world revealed itself -- and after that the rest sort of felt played out. That's a risk that an inversion-based, idea-driven story like this runs, though, a...

This really felt to me like the equal-and-opposite to Jelly Park (and I find both to be totally awesome). I don't feel equipped at the moment to delve into the details of this argument, but I'm going to go back and listen to JP again so that I can within the next day or so. Anyways, awesome episode;...

What a story. Action, allusion, crazy monsters, what's not to love? The Mythos connection here was great. My favorite Mythos stories are the ones that show humanity dealing with the unbearable extradimensional weirdness, rather then running in fear. All due respect to HPL, one of my issues with his ...

Ehh, besides the god-as-child thing being so done, if we're going with the Genesis cosmogeny (which all the "it was good" lines would imply), wasn't the naming Adam's job?
Also, a hearty "second!" to moonowl's point.

Re: Drabblecast 158- Dr. Diablo Goes Through the Motions
Haven't had the time/inclination to keep up with forums lately, but had to come back for this episode. Dr. Diable Goes Through the Motions was one of the best literary deconstructions of the whole supervillain trope I've come across, on par with, if not maybe slightly better than, the wonderful Soon...

The trick is, escort services are not technically illegal in and of itself, as they offer so-called "social or conversational services;" the fact that you're really paying for sex is under the table.Big Anklevich wrote:These guys called to complain to the cops that the "escorts" they hired stole from them?

Not precisely drabble news, but I just had to share this gem from my local paper's police blotter column. (Also, hate to say it, but looking for women matching that description in Tacoma would not be like looking for a needle in a haystack. More like looking for a specific stalk of hay in a haystack.)

Researchers create "evil" AI in order to better understand human behavior
Now, I'll start by saying I smell a quack here. But besides that, the very idea -- "Let's create a computer capable of PURE EVIL!" -- sounds like the set-up to a brainless blockbuster action movie.

Seriously, though, the robots should know that these things always go in cycles. Today a robot that eats people, tomorrow a human that eats robots. Is there really any point to this rat race? Can't we all just get along? Reminds me of Lem's Cyberiad , with its constantly repeating cycle of biologic...

Re: Nuclear terrorism, or child's play?
You have to be very serious about dirty bombs, because people could get hurt, you know. The funny thing is, they really can't. Radioactive material is incredibly hard to effectively weaponize; the dirty bomb thing is largely a pie-in-the-sky threat (mainly because it's not terribly effective terror...
