Re: Drabblecast 214 - The Wish of the Demon Achtromagk
The Mythos as a metaphor for abuse? The Power of Friendship overcoming the tentaventricular heart of an abomination from beyond space/time? I wouldn't expect anything less from the podcast of weird stories for weird listeners.

Re: Drabblecast 213 - The Haunter of the Dark
Ever since my brother and I started buying randomly assorted Lovecraft collections as kids, I've had an off and on thing going with the Mythos; with a rather irregular development resulting in it being only more recently that I actually availed myself to the big name stories like Shadow Over Innsmou...

Re: Drabblecast 212 - Ancient Engines
Also, I will now take a moment to squee over you running a Swanwick story - I've been going through the Darger and Sirplus tales ever since encountering a really short one composed of very short vignettes in the anthology "Live Without A Net". The only entry I have not gotten to yet is the latest, ...

Re: Drabblecast 212 - Ancient Engines
This reminds me, fondly, of Wind from a Dying Star, which ran on Escapepod. I guess I was reminded of it in the same way Nobilis was reminded of Blade of Grass. However it did my favorite thing, even though I know I shouldn't enjoy it so much because it isn't "good writing" but reading Lovecraft acc...

"Parade" fit on here so well, in both length and subject matter it is very nearly a Drabble. It is weird (the body horror nightmare fuel inducing future reminds me of beastiology from the other dimension in John Dies At The End) and very short - the essence of Drabblecastiness.

Ah, I knew "Hard Choices" sounded familiar. I'd read it in Brain Harvest some time ago. Took me a bit to figure that one out. Good choice by Norm in going through South Dakota, which is the least boring of that stack of rectangles in the middle of the country. Which is kind of like winning the awar...

Re: Drabblecast 202 / 203 - Boojum
The overlooked protagonists in this story were the Mi-Go. After all, you can't just go around stealing someone's cargo-load of braincases and expect to get away with it. They earned those brains, like good Nylarthotep fearing patriotic fungi should; not everyone can just live off of the Shoggoth-pow...

Re: Drabblecast 202 / 203 - Boojum
Another story in the same universe as Mongoose made me squee with delight. As an aside, I was surprised at the revelation that Boojums are apparently not only not manmade but not from outside of space/time - at least that's one would assume if their young mature in the atmospheres of gas giants. In ...

Re: Drabblecast 201 - Trifecta XV
The Difficulties of Evolution was, in my opinion, the best story of the lot objectively; but I cheated on my objectivity to have a disappointing three way with cold-fish Fiddleback Ferns and spicy meatball Killipedes before running away to Vegas with the latter, only to return back home to Difficult...

Re: Drabblecast 199 - In the Octopus's Garden
As a Lovecraft fan, I'm fond of the stories that neutrally, dispassionately describe an alien phenomenon - with the gradual realization of its consequences and scope building into mounting existential dread. In the Octopus' Garden was just like that, if you replace the horror with an Agatha Christie...
