Not From Around Here (Ghost Stories theme, sort of)

The sun is rising on the horizon. Soon, it will be beating down on the beautiful green grass outside the farmhouse. Somewhere, there's a traffic jam. Somewhere, there's air so sickly gray you could taste it, but you wouldn't want to. Somewhere, people are shooting each other in the street. Not here....

Re: Drabblecast 294 – Partial Inventory

Aside from the narrator's mispronunciation of "Beau Rivage" (and really, who could blame her?), I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Also, the rows of jars with dead insects in them made me think of Mi-Go brain cylinders, so it was Lovecraftian in my mind even in ways it probably wasn't intended to be.

Lovely prose-poem, Varda. I especially loved "chainsaw orchestra" and "mortgaged hobbies."

Excellent drabble. And an awful pun!

I am so terribly confused by the Moustache Mythos. But this was great.

Re: The Accident

All of that stuff about changing the world and saving countless lives seems so trivial now.

This drabble is more entertaining than an unplanned pregnancy.

Re: Don't Bring Work Home

I smoked cigarettes for about three years. When I quit, for a few weeks I found myself walking outside at intervals to drink coffee, talk on the phone, or do nothing in particular. Despite not really having cravings for cigarettes, it took me a while to break the habit of taking cigarette breaks. Le...

This drabble is fine. The scenery is fine. The trip was fine. Everything is fine.

Re: The Oakbrook Horror (Apprentice Theme / Lovecraft Theme)

Many thanks, all! Thomas, my idea was not necessarily that this thing was to be eaten whole, but rather that this eldritch meat source was what Big Macs are made from. Alas, I couldn't really cram that into 100 words, which is part of why I feel it's an unsuccessful drabble. I agree that Chicken McN...

So sorry, Varda. And I'm near where you are on the skepticism spectrum. I guess we would all do well to remind ourselves that we have little to lose and much to gain by offering coffee to all knockers.

Knockers?

Oh well. Screw it.

Deep. Rich. Velvety.

Well, maybe not velvety.

But very nice. I will be reading this one a few more times. How fortunate for our social lives that we do not molt bodies. How unfortunate, too.

Re: The Oakbrook Horror (Apprentice Theme / Lovecraft Theme)

Thanks, Varda! I'm not so sure on this one. I really liked the way it flowed when it was around 300 words, and I feel like I lost too much trimming it down to drabble size. But nobody wants to read a 300-word story.

The Oakbrook Horror (Lovecraft month)

I can hear my pulse in my ears. Despite my wearing short sleeves in this frigid place, I am sweating. The old man lights the torch, then thrusts it forward. The thing hisses. The color of its eyes is... wrong. A color with no name. He draws his pistol. He circles the thing. It bobs on writhing, slap...

Re: Drabblecast 293 – The Call Of The Pancake Factory

I was not expecting anyone to learn anything or have any kind of epiphany. I thought Otto would get eaten, and the Pancake Factory rep would leave having been utterly amazed by the show and wondering how Pancake Factory could ever compete. Immensely entertaining. Great job as always, Rish and Big.

While I do in fact do most of my podcast listening in a vehicle, I don't use headphones. Just ain't worth the hassle. Also, I sometimes have to rewind because I missed what was going on in a story while I was tex... um... paying attention to the road. Nice piece, Daulton. A suggestion: I think it wo...

Re: Mermaid Sushi

When I saw the title, I thought Mermaid Sushi may have been the name of the eatery, not necessarily that they served sushi actually made from mermaids. But I may be alone in that.
