A Beach at Daybreak [Category: Euphemisms]

Five friends on a beach at daybreak. Three are lovers. They are wrapped up warm to protect against the late November cold. Jeremy carries the body in a plastic sheet. They have spent many hours arguing about this. The calmness of the sea is in stark contrast to the friend’s conflicting emotions. The...

Re: The Secret Histories Of His Species [Category: Cnsprcy T

I love fiction like this, where the reader glimpses part of a larger picture that's never revealed. On one hand, there's a description of a cleric being tortured and killed. That's not interesting by itself. On the other hand, he's an member of an alien race with an ultra-orthodox religion that unc...

The Secret Histories Of His Species [Category: Cnsprcy Thrs]

Black leather bound books hung from the ceiling impaled on meat hooks. The cleric had spent decades studying these archaic volumes, the secret histories of his species and the planet they inhabited. The cleric’s disturbing research had shaken his deeply held religious beliefs profoundly. It had beco...

I wouldn't encourage too many of the members here to give me a gentle poke but this is a very good debut drabble, Lucy Jayne. Welcome.

Re: Hitomi Can See You [Category: Halloween]

Thank you for the generous feedback, pondspider. I hadn't noticed that swapping the paragraphs around works quite well! I think I prefer the more visceral conclusion of the second paragraph as an ending.

Re: Hitomi Can See You [Category: Halloween]

While I like it enough, I feel that this drabble could be stronger if it were told less literally. It's almost like a Wikipedia summary of the story. Two separate articles, even, as there's a big shift from one half to the other. Suppose you told the story from Hitomi's perspective. Imagine how she...

Hitomi Can See You [Category: Halloween]

The authorities announced the search for the missing climber officially closed. In actuality, his body had been found by the Federal Police in a terrible state. Officials decided not to inform the public that the climber had been mauled to death and was missing both of his eyes. Hitomi was abandoned...

Splendidly macabre. This is right up my alley. Very well written, unreliable narrator.
