Opposite of the narrative or expository voice?

I'm missing a word from my vocabulary. It's a bit embarrassing, and I've looked for it, but I can't find it anywhere. For example, here's a story fragment told in an expository voice. Tommy's frustration and anger washed over him as he climbed the stairs onto the roof. He greeted his friend Mark, an...

Re: Making the Rounds

That's a pretty good one.

An issue: (field not yet decided) is a distraction from the flow of the story. It's a bit jarring, and when nothing comes of it, that becomes a shaggy-dog phrase. I'd recommend you use those four words to flesh out another part of the story.

Re: Post your Twitfic Twabbles Here! (General Content)

After his announcement of a cure for Toxoplasma Gondii, Dr. Flegr was declared fair game by the Cat Protection Society. Nice one. My wife and I have two cats at home, and I grew up with cats on a family farm. I'm not sure if I'd want to know if I had Toxoplasma Gondii. I try to avoid thinking about...

Re: The Secret Histories Of His Species [Category: Cnsprcy T

I love fiction like this, where the reader glimpses part of a larger picture that's never revealed. On one hand, there's a description of a cleric being tortured and killed. That's not interesting by itself. On the other hand, he's an member of an alien race with an ultra-orthodox religion that unco...

Proposal for future writing contests

I read every story submitted for the Cat with Blue Fur writing contest in the sci-fi, fantasy, and horror sections. It took a few hours for me, and a few stiff drinks. Many of the stories were fun to read, and well-done. Many more of them were not fun to read or well done. There was a big signal-to-...
