That section is perfect for the horror genre. Reminds me of Stephen King's "Thinner".

Re: Drabblecast 140- Trifecta X

First of all, I think all three of these stories fell perfectly into the category of “Absurdity”, so that was well put. I loved "Invisibility for Beginners". It was one big, long joke, but so are most tv shows, and they last way longer. I thought it was just the right length of time to get your imag...

Well, at least the BBC in UK knows about prescribed burning in Yosemite. Forward this to your neighbors.
Thanks Strawman. I've been advocating controlled burns to manage our forests for a while now, and the article will help.

Re: Leaving a Mark

Not only is Leaving a Mark extremely deep, it's very poetic and visual. I've read it a few times now and each time I feel like I can see the whole thing taking place in front of me. Really lovely imagery. Kudos to you, RU! PS: Also, it kind of reminds me of the whole idea behind Hitchhiker's Guide. ...

Re: Finally, California falls into the sea

I really like the drabble and the way the events lead up to the punchline. I'm reminded a bit of the feeling at the end of the short story "A Slight Miscalculation" which is a wonderful San Andreas fault-line story. :-) Thanks so much ROU! I have to say, I've been waiting for beach front property f...

My Brother's Pet

“We’re overfeeding her,” I moaned.
“Nah,” said my brother, stroking the tentacle resting on his arm, “She’s perfect.”

Re: Dreamsicle

I know you wrote this a while ago, Dreamrock, but I just read it. I love the dark twist at the end. Makes me think of how dreams can slowly deteriorate into something not so dreamy. Something that makes you wake up too scared to turn on the light switch. Nice going!

Gentle waves lap at my porch. I smile. I’ve always wanted beachfront property. The California Coastal Commission has condemned your shack. It is needed for seal lion resting grounds. The rest of your property is to be a public access easement, which means that your parcel will now be taxed at $10Mi...

It is 20 degrees colder in Indiana this year than last year. Granddad asks, “When do we get that global warming out here?” We control the journals, destroy the data and fabricate the results. It's climate change! Freeze or burn, you will die. Very deep Algernon. I was going for something a little m...

Unfortunately the state's debt now has to be paid by the 10% of the population that survived, and your government-provided FEMA trailer on your .2 acre lot in Needles overlooking the Pacific now is tax appraised at $6.3 billion. Hey, the Governator can just sell some FEMA trailers and pay the state...

Finally, California falls into the sea

Waves crash over front lawns as the earth rumbles. Houses fall into the San Andres Fault and cars sink to the ocean floor. Freeways collapse into the roiling sea. The LA river breaks its cement cage to rush over backyards and early morning joggers. After the earthquake, the tide ebbs and flows over ...
