Re: Drabblecast 336 - The Mouth of God

I really liked the episode overall and see a semi-hidden message that feels worth discussing here. Or should I say it feels worth me bringing it up. If anyone responds we have a discussion. The intro fake album was brilliant, and I can’t help but wonder if Norm paired it with this story to draw atte...

Re: Drabblecast 335 - To Whatever

I loved this one for so many reasons. It all started with what seemed to be an irrational reaction by Ethan to a seemingly hostile presence. Instead of reacting reflexively negative to an unknown, however, he was open and tolerant and attempted communication, and wound up creating a relationship of ...

Unseentangerine - I encourage you to come up with more fun onomatopoeia-type names! Lately I've been daydreaming about introducing a grizzly bear named Huggy and a snail named Slimey.

Re: CwBF Contest Description & Guidelines

Marise - in my world, the Cat with Blue Fur is his proper name. That's what other cats call him. Not just a description. In this contest, there is more leeway, such as it being fine for him to have a different proper name or other nicknames but it should be clear to the reader that the story has a c...

Re: CwBF Contest Description & Guidelines

Does the Cat with Blue Fur have a nickname? or is he always referred to as the Cat with Blue Fur? In my world, the Cat with Blue Fur does not have any nickname. In your story however, he can have a nickname if you would like. Or perhaps that is his nickname and he never knew his real name because h...

Re: Drabblecast 331 – Night of the Cooters

That was a fun twist on a classic. I liked how the sheriff made the deputy listen to his whole dream. The ending rubbed me the wrong way, though. This was about a band of underdogs coming together to destroy and existential threat. When something like this happens, people step up and do everything t...

Re: CwBF Contest Description & Guidelines

Bart here with some extra details. Someone emailed to ask me some questions and I figured I'd share answers here. He asked do the humans ever talk in my stories? That is, are there bits of dialogue from humans that show up in them? If so, are the cats able to understand what the humans are saying, o...

Re: Drabblecast 324 – The Ball Room

Between this and the Goat Cutter story it feels like the ominous shadow of Mr. Lovecraft is sneaking up on us early this year. Was it just a coincidence that the Drabble was about the same subject? I especially enjoyed hearing an English guy do a German accent.

There is a highly improbable but nevertheless non-zero chance that after his death, Jay arrived to hell and was bummed to realize where he was headed as he was escorted into the sweltering waiting room by two grotesque burly monsters. But then a moment later the Devil came running up to him with a c...

Re: Bsides 46 – The Hodag

This story was great and was made even better by Norm's intro. Ordinarily I'm not a fan of any spoilers/hints but in this case I went in thinking that this would be a far out tale about a mythical/magical monster but it turned into a credible narrative by an old man who was recalling something that ...

Re: Drabblecast 323 – Missed Connection

I was not a fan of this story. it was very clear very early on that he had stumbled into some parallel dimension. The author really hit us over the head with the clues and it took a long time to listen to him blunder through each clue and rationalize it to himself. There wasn't much of a payoff eith...

I gave up on this one after ten minutes. Between the poor quality of the audio and the rapid speed of the narration I just couldn't understand it.

Re: Drabblecast 308 – Happy Old Year

I greatly enjoyed the story and like Pratt's work. Was thrown for a pleasant loop to not be crying at the end of the story as usual. I have to admit at being quite disappointed at the decisions made by the protagonist. Normally, I view such after-the-fact critiquing as somewhat unfair because most c...

Re: Drabblecast 310 – The Ugly Chickens

Hearing that this one won a Nebula Award raised my expectations ... and then I was disappointed. I kept waiting for something interesting, weird, strange, or SciFi to happen in this story and ... nothing really arrived. It was a lovely story in its own way and I would enjoy listening to Norm read th...

Re: Bsides 31 – The Black and White Animals Trilogy

This trilogy was all kinds of awesome. I don't remember ever having heard it before -- it must have been before I got hooked on the Drabblecast. It was great hearing "Young Norm" and realizing how much energy the team has put into production values over the years. Great reading and accents too and a...

I listened to this great episode tonight as I drove home past both Pentagon and DARPA HQ in the darkness. I wonder if someday we will learn that a Drabblecast episode has inspired something in either place?

With a title like this one had it was easy to see the twist coming a mile away, but it was still great. And could be true.

Great Drabble as well... yelling movie... love it.

Good creepy weird story. It made me think of the previous episode, in which LSD got into the water supply. In fact, I wondered whether this was the same story but from a different point of view.

Gotta give this one a '"meh" - once the answer was revealed the description went on and on.

I would have at least liked to see the Army guys fall victim to the same phenomenon and there be an interesting effort to figure out what happened.
