Re: Drabblecast 212 - Ancient Engines

Since when was the Drabblecast about realism. There is a much wider audience listening to drabblecast than post on the forums. I for one thoroughly enjoyed this story. I didn't dislike it for being unrealistic. In any case, there was nothing unrealistic in the body of the story, as it's several peo...

Re: Drabblecast 25 - The Worm Within by Vincent Eaton

It was my first episode, I was a converted EscapePod listener. Steve Ely plugged Drabblecast way back in its infancy, and 25 was the latest episode. I can't thank him enough. How do you not subscribe after that story? Easy! I'm glad this wasn't my first episode. I'm not much for stories that are pu...

Re: The Drabblecast Information Reclamation Project

Ahh, now I get it too. :D Hey don't look at me, I just work here. heheh. Maybe I was the only one. I don't usually have trouble following things you say on the show, but I remember hearing this and thinking, "I'm pretty sure he's speaking English, but I have no idea what he just said." Really, thou...

Re: Drabblecast 212 - Ancient Engines

I tend to like stories that explore the boundary between what is human and what is not. Great to have Swanwick on the cast (yay!) but this one didn't really seem to cover any new ground. I guess it was supposed to be a big reveal when she's eating napkins at the end? I'd assumed she was the android ...

Re: The Drabblecast Art Reclamation Project

All right, I'll look through the list of remaining episodes some more, to see if there are some premises that I feel I can do justice to. :)

Re: The Drabblecast Art Reclamation Project

Bo, any thoughts on how hard that deadline is? I just finished up my third entry, and I'm still having fun. I might think about picking up a fourth (looks like there's still plenty of pickins), but I doubt I'd finish it by August 1.

Re: Drabblecast 211 - At the End of the Hall

Well, that was different, for sure! Loved the narration, spot on, for a bitter and angry old woman fighting against powerlessness. Very strong characters too, though it made me sad when she kept on saying how much she hated to be around her son and granddaughter. That's not a flaw of the story, she ...

Re: Drabblecast 210 - Alphabet Quartet - Trifecta XVII

"P is for Parade"--like a phantasmagoria of weirdnesses, very original. Certainly interesting, but not a lot happens. Memorable, but not one of my favorites. "F is for Forever"--cute, but not very original. I've heard people say that watching "Barney" is a form of hell for something like 20 years. A...

Re: Drabblecast 208 - Hokkaido Green

I'm glad other people really liked this episode, but I didn't really dig it. Stories where magic play such a central role don't usually do it for me. In this case, was the bear supposed to be a god who controlled all cameras in the world? I'm not sure I can explain why it didn't bother me that the ...

Re: Drabblecast 209 - Babyhead

I had a Cabbage Patch Kid when I was young. I don't remember it singing haunting melodies though. I wonder if mine was defective. Seriously, I don't think I'd ever really thought about how CREEPY the Cabbage Patch Kid logo is, with the baby head in the cabbage. And now that this story points it out ...

Re: Drabblecast 207 - Hokkaido Green

I enjoyed this story reasonably well. Was anyone else picturing the panda from Ranma 1/2 for the bear? Just me? I was kind of expecting the bargain to go sour at the end, and the bear to not live up to the bargain, at which point the protagonist would go back and demand to know why, and the bear wou...

Yes it was snatched up. By me! Unblinking and David Steffen are one and the same. Mwahahahaha! Haha! Ha! Ha. Ahem... I did mention this alterego in my "dibs" email too, but you might have missed that. :) Way to let the secret identity slip there, dude. Stalinsays goes out of the way to provide you ...

Re: The Drabblecast Art Reclamation Project

So, when submitting these artworks, is the artist the one to put the episode number and story title into the image as well? Or does the artist just submit the raw image and then Bo (or someone else on the DC staff) adds that in? Unblinking, you could try #40 - Marbles. Ok, ixnay on that, Marbles was...

I still love this story. I want Creature to be my friend too! Scattercat said it well, a "combination of whimsy and menace".

Re: The Drabblecast Art Reclamation Project

This is a really neat idea!

I'm not sure I'll be able to contribute but I'll go take a peek anyway. Simple cartoons (mostly of animal variety) are about all I can manage, but maybe that'll be suitable for some episode or another.

Re: Drabblecast 207 - Pinion

I'm not sure I really grasped everything that happened. So why did the angel steal the goods? And why did it return them? I think I agree with Travelin Corpse Feet that I wasn't as emotionally close to the protagonist as was needed to really get into this.

Re: A Standoff

So it's basically a season of Dragonball Z? I feel ashamed that I watched that show and know what you're getting it. Was thinking more along the lines of those scenes in western movies where there'll be a gunfight, and the two participants just stand there staring at one another, sweat beading on t...

FTW! I watched that show in college. It wasn't too bad when something happened, but yeah generally there was a week of sweating and grunting while staring motionlessly before anything happened.

Stupid Rules

Jamie Blake, ordinary American teenager in flight over the Atlantic ocean, pressed the "on" button on his cell phone beneath his blanket. Claire, his younger sister, also ordinary, also American, also teenaged, heard the startup melody. "What are you doing?" she hissed. "I just wanna play Angry Bird...
