Re: Drabblecast 261 – The People of Sand and Slag

Generally I am biased against stories where dogs die. But holy crapamole this story was effective. A lot of food for thought, and a good use of an off-kilter POV to scare the living hell out of me. The main thought that I took from this is: preservation of other species is an important evolutionary ...

Re: Drabblecast 257 - Judgement Passed

Anyhoo, now to talk about the story. This is my favorite kind of story that centers around expanding some aspect of religion, the nature of God, the afterlife, into something tangible and observable. If I had to label myself, I think I'd call myself an Agnostic Theist. Most of the time I feel like t...

Re: Drabblecast 257 - Judgement Passed

Maybe just Jesus' way of saying "Bite me"? I remember when I was a kid our Lutheran pastor said that Communion was Jesus's way of saying "Eat me." I'm not sure if I understood the meaning of that phrase at the time, though I was aware in what kind of contexts it tended to be used in. But my mom was...

I... didn't get into this one much. I'm not sure why. If I hadn't fallen woefully behind on my forum activity due to the Escape Pod flash fiction contest, I'd probably be able to say. </unhelpful feedback>

Re: Drabblecast 259 - The Last of the O-Forms

Really top-notch story here. Everything from the premise itself of a mutagenic panspecies plague, to the change of one kind of circus (of the freaks the like of which no one has ever seen) to another kind of circus (of the only normal-looking kind left of which we all have seen, but thought we never...

Re: Drabblecast 260 - Trifecta XXIII

And regarding my story, I am very happy to finally have a story on the Drabblecast after years of submitting! And an original no less, so this is the only place you can find this one published. When I wrote this one I set out to write a 2nd person story that I didn't hate. Which, I'm not totally sur...

Blue--I really like Sandra's writing. I get the impression that the main character is a former member of the ruling class of an overthrown government, so she is being put on display of an example of how pathetic the former rulers were, yes? I am not totally sure that the sewing up of the eyes and th...

Re: Drabblecast 253 - Maybe the Stars

Not my favorite of the Lovecraftian originals on the Drabblecast, but I enjoyed it reasonably well. I liked how the eldritch horror from the deep was more sympathetic than any of the human characters that Little Useless interacted with. It had a bit of a fable feel, where good deeds towards the help...

Re: Drabblecast 252 – The Elder Thing and the Puddle People

This story was made of win. I look forward to Lovecraft month since it was begun a year or two ago, for this kind of great story. Yes, miniature civilziation stories have been done before, but I liked this one more than the others. I dont think the others put such a Lovecraft Elder God spin on it, a...

Re: Drabblecast 251 - The Music of Erich Zann

By far the best Lovecraft story I've read/heard to date. It's a bit of a slow beginning, but well worth the wait. the image of the man widly playing his instrument to drive back the cosmic horror is a great one.

Selfless--I didn't really like this one. I've read other stories about clone replacements that I thought did it better. In the end this one just seems to accept the status quo that he's disposable, and that is all. I wanted something to happen, the situation to change. Prophecy Negotiations--I laugh...

... the same level of tension, a one note song, so its dreary never changing nature just left me waiting for it to end. Quite like life, really. Like much of life, certainly. Especially the day-to-day grind of wage work. Exactly the kind of thing I don't want to read. But I don't just want to wait ...

What the bloody hell was that? Now, again, Bisson is a writer of some talent, so I have to assume that this style was a deliberate choice and execution. But I have no idea what he was trying to accomplish, and for me it completely failed, leaving me wanting to run from the room to escape the inanit...

Yeah I don't think I95 was meant to be in California, that he was just lying to her. I didn't like this one. The little bits of humanity and kindness in it were nice but did nothing to overcome the overwhelming depressingness of it all. I like that Jimmy's there to try to help people out as they str...

I haven't seen any episodes of Dora the Explorer, sooo for most of the episode I was just trying to figure out what the heck this was mocking. It had some funny moments, but I'd expect it'd be a lot funnier if I had any idea of the source material.

A fun, weird, bizarre story with completely unexplained happenings, but which uses them in a very entertaining way. I've not actually read the original Kafka story, but have heard it referenced enough to know the basic idea. I laughed quite a bit, especially with the final line that they forgot to s...

Thinking on this story further (there's a lot to think about here!), in this story the intellectual property laws are even more strict than most such laws in our world. You get fined for just MENTIONING a formula, let alone using it. Just to TEACH SCIENCE you'd have to be so rich, to repeat those fo...
