Re: Drabblecast 106- Boiled Black Broth and Cornets by Frank

This one was interesting with a lot of silly details, but I kept getting held up on the premise that deep black soup can mesmerize. If something deep black would have that effect, wouldn't it happen every time you turn the lights off? Or to blind people?

Re: Drabblecast 195- A Matter of Size by Robert Jeschonek

Was that really Offspring's "Keep Them Separated" in Rat Pack style playing in the background? Ha! Loved it. I heard another reimagined song too, this one in instrumental but couldn't put my finger on the title--anyone catch it? It was better to leave the warning off. It would've been too much of a ...

Re: Drabblecast 151- The Society of Eccentric Moustaches

I've always had this desire to shave one side of my face, but never had the guts to do it. Ha, I met a friend of my dad's who claims to have done it. He went in to the office, and his desk is situated so that anyone coming in will see just a profile, so he left that with his usual full beard. When ...

Re: Drabblecast 194 - A Distant Sound of Hammers

Random side thought: a disease causing a craving for human flesh makes some sense, since our species eats meat, and this is just a specific kind of meat. But why the urine? Why does urine make the chicken taste better? I don't know of any animal that intentionally pees on their own food (though it's...

Re: Drabblecast 151- The Society of Eccentric Moustaches

I can grow a mustache. My problem is that I look much better without one. And I'm too lazy to shave regularly enough. I tend to shave irregularly too. The hair doesn't grow fast enough to require daily shaving, and anything that doesn't make it into my daily routine tends to get unpredictable frequ...

Re: Drabblecast 37 - Luna Springs by Patrick Hurley

I remember a friend of mine said she expected some kind of sinister reveal, like they really were being launched into the sun. I already read THAT story as a subplot in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (except it was expanded so that it wasn't just old people, but any member of society considered t...

Re: Drabblecast 151- The Society of Eccentric Moustaches

Eccentric moustaches may be one of the most consistently entertaining objects ever. I really wish I could grow a respectable one but even more than a decade out of high school trying to grow one looks like one of those bad teenage variety. I even participated in Movember this year (wherein you grow ...

Re: Drabblecast 156- Going to the Chapel by Sandra Odell

I was very excited to see a Sandra Odell story on the Drabblecast. I'd read her stories elsewhere, and her imagination and sense of humor fit perfectly here. This one was a lot of laughs. I've never been to the south, other than a 1-week trip to Florida, so my only exposure to those areas are what I...

Hey, welcome Pat! I like when authors stop by. :)

Mr. Tweedy already said most everything I was going to say, particularly about the nature of love and the man's reaction to his father no longer fitting the role he wanted him to fill.

Re: Drabblecast 149- So You're Going to Die by Robert Reed

Lots of cool ideas in this, particularly the idea of a hitman hired to ensure an individual gets to their desired afterlife. I think living forever in a tiny box sounds like a terrible existence, but I don't doubt that many would snatch up the opportunity. As scattercat said, though, there's just no...

Re: Drabblecast 159- Intelligent Design by Ellen Klages

I heard it first over at Podcastle. I thought it was cute, but sort of blew its punchline right at the beginning with the quote. From the quite it was obvious what was going to happen. If the quote'd been removed, or moved to the end, the story would've stood up better on its own.

Cute, fluffy fun. I'm not much for cat stories, but it made be chuckle here and there. Reminded me of Douglas Adams' tiny invaders.

Re: Drabblecast 194 - A Distant Sound of Hammers

Great idea, I liked that the zombies were still rational, just different and I liked how they've created a religion and inquisition to keep their own in line. Great ideas, well executed. I tend to agree with Mr. Tweedy, though, that the "no one has a hope for ever and ever" story fell a little flat ...

Ok, the most grating thing was the pronunciation of the word 'cypress'. It's like 'sigh-press'. Before this aired it never occurred to me it could be pronounced any other way. One other thing was at first the narrator said 'crayfish'. This grates on my nerves like nothing else. Damned northerners. ...

Re: Drabblecast 109 - Babel Probe by David Levine

Still one of my favorite Drabblecast stories, this one and Charlie the Purple Giraffe convinced me that I need to seek out more Levine stories. I love a story that muddles the boundary between science and magic, and this one did it well. I love how it's left ambiguous whether the demon was actually ...

Algernon, I'm not familiar with the Hell's Bells concept. I just took the story to mean that Lucifer happened to be the (fallen) angel to get his wings that time. Are there particular bells that need to be rung in order for that to happen? That's what I thought too. There's an old Christmas movie, ...

Re: Drabblecast 191 - Primary Pollinator

I forgot to mention that "If I had a Hammer" was frigging hilarious. I've always thought that song was weird and didn't really make sense. Frank's version makes perfect sense to me and I'll never be able to hear that song again without thinking of this version.
