Re: Drabblecast 174- The Fantasy Jumper by Will McIntosh

I was looking up the name of a story I heard over on Escape Pod that had an extremely similar "nice guy who aims low out of poor self-esteem and/or necessity." Turns out it was Bridesicle - written by Will McIntosh. Can someone go find Will, give him a hug and tell him that we like him just the way...

Re: Drabblecast 182- Trifecta XIV

The first two were kind of "eh," but "Toaster of The Gods" made my day even though I'm not sure if the Ren-and-Stimpy-esque background music was too much of a good thing, or just enough. "Toaster" is the kind of story I begin to write and then end up stopping for fear that an angry fiction editor w...

Re: Drabblecast 175- The Outsider by H.P. Lovecraft

I've only come across a couple Lovecraft stories to date. This one was good, but didn't hit me on all cylinders like The Music of Erich Zann did. The description of the other world was very intresting, and compelling, and the mirror revelation was cool if a bit predictable to my modern reading ear....

Re: Drabblecast 59 - The Interview by Kevin Anderson

Will I be shunned if I admit I've never seen the Twilight Zone episode everyone's referring to? Yet it still reminded me of it, because I've seen parodies of it (including that Treehouse of Horror episode). Anyway, I agree with those who said the flesh-eating zombies seemed a little tacked-on. I lov...

Re: Drabblecast 178- The Tentacled Sky by Jay Lake

This one was fun, though it didn't hit me quite as strong as the other Lovecraft Month stories. I'm wondering at this point if I'd have assumed the narrator was male in text, I think the male narrator might have done it for me. I was pretty excited that I figured out that EALOU was JEALOUSY before t...

Auugggghhh! Earworm! Get it out! Get it out! Erm... Sorry about that outburst. I don't know what came over me. The earworm is telling me to tell you that I liked the story, and that it would not have done as well in text without the audio. The earworm also says that, not only was it catchy, it made ...

Re: Drabblecast 180- Something Borrowed, Something Doomed

Great, original idea, great Drabblecast material. All bow down to the all-powerful Best Virginia hillbillies. :) The ending left me a little flat, but overall I still thought it was done very well. And welcome Matthew!! His "Hometown Horrible" is still one of my favorite Pseudopod episodes. And just...

Re: Drabblecast 169- The Reenactment by Ben H. Winters

This one was a great deal of fun, which is what I hang around here for. The Drabblecast was the perfect place to showcase this story--if it had been on an all-mainstream podcast, I would've assumed he wasn't the reincarnation. If it had been on an all-fantasy podcast, I would've assumed he WAS. Sinc...

Re: Drabblecast 177- Floaters by David D. Levine

Was I the only one who, after reading the title, jumped to another conclusion. Actually, I guessed it was one of two: 1. A bloated corpse found floating in the river. 2. An AFR (Accidental Fecal Release) in a swimming pool. :P I've had floaters pretty much as long as I remember. I was easily enterta...

Re: Drabblecast 185- Horror World 2025: Part II

I loved the Phantom Clause song at the beginning, especially the line about "stygian flame" which had me laughing out loud at home depot while I was searching for a putty knife (not to mortar a friend into a corner of my wine cellar, of course, because that would be weird) The rest of the story was ...

Re: Drabblecast 176- Cinderlands by Tim Pratt

I loved Lovecraft month (A Pratt AND a Levine, both on the theme of cosmic horror--wow!), and this story in particular. I loved the title, loved the backyard garden with the weird objects and the rotten plants that grow out of it. I enjoyed the apparently nonexistent neighbor--I figured he'd turn ou...

Re: Drabblecast 184- Horror World 2025

So the intro was for me as much fun as a barrel of face huggers. I'm sorry Norm, for the first time ever,it got REALLY old fast. I love puns. Tatas are great too. Just I really thought I was trapped listening to a 6 year old who just learned the word "boobies" was naughty and fun to say. It just wa...

Re: Drabblecast 184- Horror World 2025

Looking at it in more detail, maybe it is simply the sudden use of the word "android" that causes a jarring effect. It wasn't used until Grandpa started ripping off faces. Maybe something like "wires and gears emerged instead of flesh and blood" would be a more comfortable transition than exchangin...

Re: Drabblecast 184- Horror World 2025

Yes, we all think our own voices suck. I think the only actor we haven't heard from is Selena? I dont Me neither. :) But I keep putting off buying recording equipment and volunteering, because I always worry, not that my voice will sound bad, but that I'll be barraged by "Did he record this inside ...

Re: Drabblecast 184- Horror World 2025

Last week i protested for the second time ever. It was an employer that hired on the bias of no bearded men. and a bunch (20 or so) of bearded men went and stood very quietly outside the establishment for an half hour. Sadly i think we need new tactics because people thought we were a flash mob nex...

Re: Drabblecast 184- Horror World 2025

That didn't bother me at all, I think the makers of the game put so much realism into it that it might have been a real cemetery, or so close to one as to not know the difference. The zombies were there pretty much immediately and it was obvious to me that it was an intentional trip to hunt zombies...

Re: Drabblecast 184- Horror World 2025

Quite fun! I like the horror trope mashup set up by the Horror World premise. It sort of reminded me of Marvel's Arcade character who'd trap superheroes in theme parks populated by killer androids in disguise, leave them one possible way out and see if they made it ( they always did, of course). It'...

Re: Drabblecast 182- Trifecta XIV

Character Flu was my favorite of the bunch, a very interesting take on odd mind virus, and though I suspected the the character might be one of the artificial, I still enjoyed the journey. Makes me wonder if I'm just a mote of simulated consciousness in Norm's brain. Toaster of the Gods was great fu...
