I hold the revolver in my hand, feel its compact, substantial weight, and marvel at the mechanical precision. I insert a single bullet, my only bullet, and spin the cylinder. I listen to it purr, and when it stops, I pull back the hammer; the cylinder locks with a loud click. The weight pulls at my ...

Surprise!
I pushed my bowl aside and cracked open the fortune cookie. I did not like what I read. If that wasn’t chicken, what was it?

Re: Signs
Yeah, that might do it. It's part of a longer piece I haven't been able to make work.Mikes wrote:I liked this, even though I feel it ends before it should. Follow up drabble, perhaps?

Re: The Sensation
edit the word borrows into burrows, other than that its brilliant. I loved the description and would love to see the original story if you can post it. Good catch. Thanks. How about a link? http://52250flash.wordpress.com/2010/08/13/space-camp-by-al-mcdermid/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return...

Signs
The signs were as clear as the oily waters of the Gulf of Mexico, clear as the sky above of the burning lungs of the earth, clear as the melt water from the last glacier. The temperatures rose, breaking records, baking the ground, breeding famine. Sea levels rose as well, swallowing islands, while d...

Re: Drabblecast 174- The Fantasy Jumper by Will McIntosh
I liked this story for its surreal quality. The park's various attractions were clever, but the idea of a fantasy jumper as amusement was just too weird. Very enjoyable.

Space Camp
He found himself standing in their daughter’s room, staring at the dusty mobile of the planets, unsure of how he’d come to be there. He looked at her bed, her desk, the unfinished homework. He went into the kitchen, looked at the table, littered with unopened mail. He took a bottle from the cabinet ...

I listen to nothing but ambient music, listen for the secret messages. I cannot stop. It is how they communicate with me.

Re: The Spirit Guide
The coelacanth IS the raddest fish ever. Great spirit guides too, it seems. 'Chill and taste bad.' I love it.

The Sensation
The sensation starts at the back of head and I almost mistaken it for a mosquito, though I know it’s on the inside. It crawls into my lizard brain and I smile at the impulse to kill. It burrows farther into my brain and I imagine newly transformed bees eating themselves free of the honeycomb. It spr...

Re: DC 170 & 171- Mongoose by Sarah Monette and Elizabeth Bear
This was simply amazing, so well constructed. And expertly told! Something about a political officer with that chirpy voice was disconcerting. I especially liked the idea of the dangers of space being nasties (great names too, especially the bandersnatch) that may not occupy the same dimension. Does...

“Don’t worry,” she said leaning into the back seat where I struggled, “if you were in real danger, you’d be in the trunk.”
