Really?

If I wanted stories about bodily fluids caused by microscopic parasites I'd get them from the Drabblecast. As it happens, that is what I want so I'm in the right place. Yippee!

When I first heard that the cat liquefied, I thought it was a nice way of saying 'diarrhoea.' I've had a cat do that to me, and it weren't none too pleasant.

The parasite count was a great way to build the story. It seemed like a misplaced joke at first --- that amount of specificity sounded like an author trying to be funny. By the end I was listening to the numbers like I might listen to footy scores on the Sunday night news.

I'm also glad Gloria left --- one more thing Phil had lost, but this time it was for the better. I can't get over the fact that she turned up against Phil's very unexpectedly, complains about the way Phil is dressed and then whinges that the place isn't clean enough.

Phil had a problem with parasites alright. One was eating him from within, turning everything inside him to weak, pus laden sop. The other was cured with a needle to the groin.

Poor Kitty

Post by the_wenus » Fri Apr 04, 2008 4:26 pm

Ever since I listened to this wonderfully off-beat and entertaining story, I can't even pet my cat without visions of parasites running through my mind! I hope I don't give my poor kitty a disorder of some sort... or low self-esteem. Great story, though. I like when stories live with me. Get it? Pun intended.

This story+ the fact that I just finished Peeps by Scott Westerfield + being halfway through Infected= a continually growing paranoia about parasites. I shouldn't have done all three in one week.

Basically... Ew. No more no less. I am not so pleased with this drabblecast. Sure, the writing was good, but I feel that the drabblecast is often about the same gross stuff every week. (Same song and dance, different day) To sum it up: Can we have some none death oriented gore-fest stories?

Sorry if i'm being rude :)

Well... I wouldn't call it rude, but this is the place to come if you want this sort of story.

Besides, are all the stories a bit icky? If you look at the comments from last week you'll notice a few people complaining we hadn't had ickiness for a while. And we've had some really nice stories as well --- see 'Jelly Park' for instance. 'Black and White Animals' wasn't all that gory, and neither were a lot of the stories we've had.

The Drabblecast might have a reputation for being rather, um, ewful, but the track record suggests it's just strange.

That just about sums up me, too.

Ickies

EEEehhheeeheeeww! O, I liked the story. I was sure someone was going to explode into a mess of crawling worms (aside from the cat) any second. It'd be .. like a plague. I liked the lead up! AND It gave me the creeping heebie jeebies. I HATE cleaning and MAN did I clean after this one. Scrub down the counters, scrub the floors. No accursed gross-O wormies for me thank you very much.

Haaa haa ha! Now that is a Drabblecast! Well written, clever, and kept twisting on me every time I thought I knew what was next.

And the communal reaction is almost as good as the story itself!

Who found/choose this story?

It was just a standard submission- but we all knew it was a winner once we read it.

Ewwww!!! This is a story to make anyone turn into a clean freak.
I liked how the tallies of the remaining parasites were listed periodically. I kind of wanted to root for them. "Hold on, you nasty little bastards! Life will find a way!"

Also, that cat liquefying sound effect at the beginning was perfect. I heard the line about the cat liquifying and I thought my mental recordplayer had jumped to the next track in mid-sentence. And then the sound effect confirmed that I had, indeed, heard exactly what I thought I'd heard. :P

Hey, didn't know this story was by our now associate editor! Good choice, Norm.
This is one of the all-time drabbly stories, in my memory.

Unblinkin, if you want to hear that sound again, make sure you've listened to 75 Lines, a bBardle on the archive site.

Boy, that was a LONG time ago...

I liked this - fun, light, but forces you to think about all the tiny parasitic microbes around us. Good stuff.
