The squid is a solipsistic psychopathic God with a lust for submarine hull and a mandate from Ronald Reagan branded on its hunting tentacles. It sweeps east from Iceland in the cold under the
thermocline, alone in the dark, solitary lord of a solitary place.

1. DUDE THAT'S MY DRABBLE! :D
2. ...can I get my name spelt "Rachael" on the main page? Or, can someone travel back in time and fix my birth certificate? Either/or. ;)

Wow, Tom Clancy returns as Jules Verne channeled by Seth Dickinson in war games with tentacles. How could you get more Drabblecast?
Plus, not content to aim for mere tentacles, Dickinson presents squid psychology in a way that reflects on human consciousness. One of my favorite areas of conjecture: Solipsism.

So, a solipsistic weapon. What could go wrong?

Anyway, intrigued enough to visit Seth's website, and read a bit about how the brain creates the way we think and perceive the way we do. And here I was about to believe that I knew every interesting thing there was to know. Now I wonder what thoughts resulted in me feeling that way.

Also, what kind of mind does Facebook result in. Have I reached the event horizon of the Noosphere?

I think Norm took a special interest in this one. Because he could totally believe that if he were ever in the Navy, he would totally sign up for the Cephalopod Command, and end up testifying about this very thing.

Nice!

This story seems tailor-made for Norm, and the Narrative style and narration couldn't have been more awesome together.

You've pulled the right lever, so here's your fish, fish, fish.

So many snarky gems in this one and just the right degree of believable madness. I, also, am going to check out some more Seth Dickinson.

I haven't listened to the episode yet, just the intro and drabble. (Good drabble, BTW.) It was perfect having the " 'twas the night" music in the background. For those who don't remember, it's a Bbardle from this episode: http://www.drabblecast.org/2010/12/25/d ... -lafferty/

One of Norm's best!

Newb here, sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but where can I find the lovely minor key piano rendition of Jingle Bells that played under the drabble? It made me feel things.

Welcome aboard, Lilzilla!

That was an intriguing arrangement, wasn't it? Norm might answer your question here (I'd also like to get my paws on it), but you might have better luck tweeting him.

Hi! I heard a Chorus of the Bells rendition under "Twas the night" but not Jingle Bells . . .

I would try the tweet route if I had a twitter account and enough history of using it to not trip over my flippers with awkwardness.

He's notoriously hard to get ahold of. Send him a PM here, but don't be offended if you don't get a response. :-)

Wow, was this story made for the Drabblecast, or what! I don't have anything particularly deep to say, except that I love how the narrator seems just as insane as the squid - he's just a little too enamored of his creation's awesomeness and terror, and a little too in touch with how such a creature would think. This is the second Seth Dickerson story I've had the pleasure to run across, and so far he's got a 100% awesome rating in my book. I'd love to hear more of his stuff.

FInally got a chance to listen to the drabble without interruption. Haha I loved it. I'm actually curious what a part 2 would sound like.

Oh, and a specific note to Bo- Fantastic artwork! Great use of extensive phallic imagery, against the depths of the black sea.

I agree, Bo, about the great luminescent phallic imagery, but would add that you really excelled with the subtle suggestion of kinky submarine sex.

Release that ballast, Now! Oh, my!
Dive! Surface! Dive!

From Norm's twitter, the tune is Jingle Bell Hell by Kris Knight. Thanks to @ArbysMom!

I tweeted Norm and he replied: https://twitter.com/TheDrabblecast/stat ... 5532846080

Amazon didn't load well, last.fm was uncooperative, but I found it on iTunes, on an album called Scary Little Christmas. It's track 5: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/a-sca ... d287115874

Awesome! :D
