Early Riser

Post by munsi » Wed Jun 09, 2010 10:10 pm

150 years into our journey, my hibernation pod malfunctioned, and I woke.

I attempted repairs, but didn‘t have the parts. So now I wander, I wait.

The view of the stars is magnificent, what I see no other human ever will, but what I watch most is you. Safe in your pod, asleep.

Who are you?

When you arrive I’ll be dead, there’s no food on this ship and even if there were, it’s a thousand years until you arrive at your destination.

I’m sad not to be joining you, but I wish you the best on your new world.

No No, not me. She'd awaken to find my skeleton? That's just too cruel.

No, I'm going to wake her up.

She can get hungry with me, is that asking so much?

Then, after a few days of love and sacrifice (my name is Prince Charming), when we are both weak from hunger, I will kiss her, bid her bon voyage, and let her get back into her pod and fall back asleep, to dream of me.

Shortly after that, I will cut off her air supply, and take her place in the pod. This way, we both die happy.

He woke me up.

I awoke gradually from cryosleep – a dream about my lover, no less. We were in a field, enjoying a picnic and each other’s company. He turned to me, his lips mere moments away…

He woke me up with a kiss.

Twenty lightyears out, eight hundred some years to go.

We will starve together.

Or we would… he says I must return. To sleep. To continue without him. Alone.

I can hardly bear the thought of a life without my dear lover, but weak with hunger I agree.

He says goodnight, one last time.

With a kiss.

There are thousands of colonists on the ship. I shorted one of the heaters to red heat, and started to defrost the first sleep chamber. No yours, of course; when you wake up, I'd like to present you with fait accompli.

I just hope you like barbecue.

Actually, the idea lends itself more to a smoker.
Hickory infused, meat falling off the bone. Mmmmmm. Smoked colonist.

Made ya salivate? C'mon; admit it.

Moron'd

Post by dreamrock » Fri Jun 11, 2010 8:24 pm

Yaaaaawn. That was a really shitty dream. I hate hibernation.

They promised me I wouldn't be conscious on any level! I imagine they'll say I'm mentally disturbed. Screw 'em.

I got out of the pod five minutes ago. Maybe everyone else's dreams were so bad they are still in their pods, terrified. I haven't seen or heard anyone.

Oh, man. I knew my fellow colonists were morons, but it appears I'm the only colonist who survived hibernation. The rest seem to have fingered the emergency release in their sleep and couldn't figure out how to turn the pods back on.

I'd try, but there's no good way to do a word count from my phone and I'm without computer for at least a few more hours. That's a really interesting writing challenge in general. All of us aspiring to being published should give it a try.

 I like the sounds of that. But be careful or Drabble Lord Rassilon will start a drabblewar and destroy all literature so the Drabble Lords can progress to the next medium (3D Hyper Porn?). First person to respond with an appropriate graphic or screenshot for this injoke wins one free ... drabblewar.

EDIT: Clarification -- the injoke isn't remotely adult in nature. :x

:D Excellent.

Now, the question is, who do you want to be the Doctor and who do you want to be Lord Rassilon in your very own drabblewar, Ejbman?

Great dribble. I like the spacey, screwed up production.

Yeah, that part's my fault. If I ever do that again, I'll go way easier on the reverse Delay I used on the woman's segment.

I did mean that as a compliment, honest :). I like the heavily produced effect, it really captured the claustrophobic disorientation of the story.
