While gardening, I came across a hole I had never noticed, covered in a bit of strange mist. To test how deep it was, I threw a handful of beans in, but never heard them hit the bottom. Later a strange sprout emerged.

Coincidentally, that was the same day the tiny man appeared. He seemed polite enough, so I asked him to stay for dinner. I was baking with my niece that day; oh, how she loves to make up silly rhymes. But by time the bread was done he was gone, and my goose, harp, and gold were missing.

Why don't kids get taught to think from the giant's point of view? OOOOOO a goose that lays gold eggs: Mine!!! It's okay to steal, because he is big and says fe fi fo fum. Thank you, Liz, you have struck a blow against bigism.

I too am a fan of "looking at from the other guy's point of view" story, and Liz, you are on my "must check out this new drabble list" right alongside, Munsi, SC, Pheno, & Eric.

If you hadn't noticed, I have a major thing for fairy tales too. Especially the ones that are a little on the "Grimm" side.

I suggest Norm consider doing one of the original Grimm's as an episode. The Brothers were the original Doug Adams.

Sort of revisit the "Strange" mileposts throughout history, with Norm as Rick Steves. How much fun would that be?

Which reminds me, I was harping onto the wife the other day, who's not a big reader, about I Shall Wear midnight, the new Pratchett book, saying how glad I am it's a YA book and in the first few chapters deals with a miscarriage brought on by domestic violence. Well, not pleased as such, more so happy that Pratchett sees no reason such subjects should be taboo for kids.

To cut a long story short, she looked at me like I was a murderer.

But I'm a big fan of teaching kids about life through stories, than that life isn't all cream and strawberries, and that sometimes they throw you lemons, and sometimes lemons ridden by dragons, but that those dragons can be killed. And that, yes just because you heard a story from one point of view does not make THAT point of view the right one.

Long story short (too late?) I liked this drabble.

Am I getting paid by the word for these replies?

Just remembered, there's a story on the Clarkesworld website about the film The Thing told from the Thing's point of view. I'm trying hard to remember the name, but it's free to read and defiantly worth the time.

The great thing was, when I listened to the reading on the podcast I had managed to completely ignore the title and introduction and so it just slowly dawned on me as the story went on.
