The Unimaginable Horror of a Healthy Haul

Scales -too many to count- cover my body. I gasp for air and writhe with the fruitless desperation of a condemned man. Escape is my intention, but I know not where I am, nor where I need to be. As the silky, oily bodies of my companions slither and slide about me, panic sets its steely fingers around my heart. I try to scream, but am unable. I try to swim, but find nothing to swim against.

I awaken.

I do not sleep often, but when I do, this dream consumes me always; the fear –the horror- of the cull.
