Planet-Wide Corporate Farming

Post by HR_Duff_n_Stuff » Mon Jun 06, 2011 11:40 pm

The big black monolith changed our minds.

Killing herbivores, getting more protein and fat, our brains grew bigger, faster, skilled at planning how to eat even better. First we spread all over the planet, farming and hunting. Later came animal husbandry, breeding first for docility and health, then for flavor, finally to make all-breast-meat chickens that mature in seven weeks and can barely walk. All the easier to stuff ourselves into obesity while watching television, ninety nine percent of our neurons unused, like synaptic veal.

The patient zombies who sent the monolith head back to the ranch for a roundup.

(a tip of the hat to Arthur C. Clarke, Stanley Kubrick, and the BBC 'History of the World in 100 Objects' podcast, that recently brought to mind that, back in the day, newfangled stone tools to crack bones for marrow fat were a critical step for humans having the raw materials to grow great big high quality brains. )
