Nourishing Slaughter
I had to change my diet after realizing how many lives were wastefully destroyed for the sake of my simple meals. The horror. The GUILT! I couldn’t take it anymore. No life, no matter how insignificant, should be sacrificed for my table. I’ll change my habits. I’m changing my habits. I’ve changed my habits. But I still have nightmares. Heavy thoughts of heavy machinery, plucking, picking, sheering. Those poor insects! Those poor mice! How could I be so blind to the tractor’s destruction. Billions of lives reaped with each harvest! No sir! No more vegetables for me. VEGAN NO MORE!

Re: Nourishing Slaughter
Would there be so many vegans if plants had mouths to scream with, or legs to flee with?

I recall a while back having this exact same thought. But I'm glad you had it too--and I'm even gladder you drabblized it.

Re: Nourishing Slaughter
I have to confess, this drabble was inspired from knowing someone once who claimed to be a vegan strictly for "health reasons." But then refused to eat honey, despite its health benefits, because bees get smashed when collecting it. Their justification confuses me still today, years later.
