It started with a silver sphere, breaking the surly bonds. As cash followed curiosity, sentinels arrived, some kissing the exosphere and others destined for graveyard orbits. But as easily as the bipeds below learned how to fling precious metals about they stopped, turning away from the call above the Kármán line. All that was left was for the embassaries to shred one by one, reentering and occasionally frustrating the lone meteor hunter. And then the day finally came. Though no eye remained to see it, human or otherwise, a glittering flat ring of space junk now swaddled the planet Earth.
