"The incantation—I must have it!" hissed the demon. I was doomed. I couldn't possibly recall the words I had read in my youth from books long since destroyed, and timidly said so.

The fearsome imp conjured from the air a nightmarish clamp-like instrument which he fastened onto my kneecap. The infernal thing tightened; the pain was indescribable.

Unexpectedly, through the agony the words came to me, and I sobbed out each syllable. Satisfied, the smiling creature disappeared, and the torment immediately relented.

I remember those words still. Believe me, nothing aids the memory like a demonic knee vice.
