The Doppelganger

Mike could not be sure at first, but when the man went to the bar to buy another pint of lager it was obvious; the man was identical to Mike. His double had the same receding brown hair, glasses and a nose, which Mike had often thought, was too large for his face.

He approached his doppelganger, who was clearly drunk, and introduced himself. Recognition flashed across the man's face and he smiled.

"I'm Steve"

the clone said, and extended his hand.

The explosion generated as matter annihilated antimatter destroyed both men, atomised the pub and most of Greater London.

Or Mike and anti-Mike.
Interesting reflection.

I considered 'Ekim'.

It is actually a true story... I once met a bloke in the pub who looked a bit like me.

Wait a minute. Is this leading up to the one about the O'Reilly twins?

I'm confused.

If his name is Mike why did he introduce himself as Steve?

(As a "Steve" who already clearly has doppleganger problems of his own, I'm really anxious for the answer to this query...)

ROU, it is well known amoungst quantum physicists that Steve is the antithesis of Mike (something to do with the spin on the quark?). You are right to be concerned.

In High School I was routinely confused with the other guy that looked a lot like me and was also just as geeky and good in math and science class. He was routinely called by my name.

My name is Steve. His name was Mike.

All those years spent in school together with catatrosphe looming a handshake away.

Too close, too close.
