Trophy Husband (Relocation Theme)

Post by MonsieurMoustache » Mon Sep 02, 2013 8:17 am

Jed met his wife during a moonlit walk on the beach. She swam alongside until she grew the legs to toddle behind him. In a month she'd mastered cutlery, small talk, and grass whistling. The next, she wrote a symphony which cured mental disorder. She quantified the existence of angels as an anniversary present.

The first extra arm was for convenience. But she couldn't stop improving. Everything humanlike was an evolutionary dead-end.

Soon she'd transcended physical form completely.

Some can claim to have married Celine Dion, Charlie Chaplin or Johnny Depp.

But really, only Jed was wed to a star.

Have you seen Miyazaki's movie "Ponyo"? Something about the rapid evolution in here made me think of it, in a good way.

I love how while this is technically Jed's story, he's completely irrelevant to the plot as his wife achieves new levels of excellence. Fits thematically with the title as well.

Perhaps Jed and Henry from PhineasQP's classic drabble can form a support group.

The ending is what cinched it. Very clever. It almost has an elder thing feel because he met her along the beach, had multiple appendages, and then became a astral entity. Lovecraft theme?

It was a little inspired by that. Lovecraft on the brain and all. It was originally about a reverse-mermaid (fish head) but it sort of evolved.

Duck the pun, please.
