When Serendipity Attacks!

The New Year’s Eve party was just winding down. The slushers were sloshed, the editors passing around cigars rolled from rejection paper, and the Roomba had choked to death on confetti a couple hours back. I won’t name names, but someone planted an elbow on the keyboard, activating the seldom-used “Form Acceptance” macro on an email titled, “The Flaming Sword of Sir Pemberley The Bold”, which ominously hit the inbox at the stroke of midnight.

Far away, before anyone realized the mistake, Sir Pemberley applied for his Codex membership. At last, people were giving his autobiography the acclaim it deserved.

I wrote this as a joke after someone explained to me what Codex was and how its membership works. Then I realized a few days later that without trying, I'd written a 101-word story. I'm so amused about being programmed to write in 100-word increments that I trimmed a word and thought I'd share. :)

You and me both. I have to work hard to break the 100 word ceiling now.

Well, that's what NaNoWriMo is for, right?

Oh hey, are you doing NaNoWriMo this year too?? :D I'm up to 4100 words so far. Half on a short story, and half on a novella. I'm not so much writing a novel this year as I'm trying to make myself finish 50,000 words worth of half-started projects and ideas.
